South African Dlamini-Zuma elected AU Commission Chairperson

Addis Ababa, July 16, 2012 (SPS) - The South African Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma elected Sunday in Addis Ababa during the 19th Summit of Heads of States and Government of the African Union.


The South African, 62 years, elected in a fourth round of voting, where she won 37 votes, more than two-thirds needed according AU Commission election law, beating the Gabonese Dr. Jean Ping, 69 years, who have been on top of the Commission since 2008.

Addis Ababa, July 15, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, revealed that the African Union Commission has submitted a resolution, holding Morocco responsible for failure of the negotiations between and appealing to the UN to live up to its commitments towards right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, to the 19th Summit.

Polisario Front delegation attends congress of South African Communist Party

Johannesburg (South Africa), July 15, 2012 (SPS) - A delegation of the Polisario Front is attending these days the 13th congress of the South Africa Communist Party (SACP), taking place from 11 to 15 current July in the city of Durban.


The delegation is led by the State Minister, Mr. Bachir Mustapha Sayad, and includes Mr. Sleiha Al-Abd, the Ambassador to South Africa, and Mr. Ouali Mousa, from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spanish party asks Madrid to assume its historic responsibilities in Western Sahara

Madrid, July 15, 2012 (SPS) - The Andalusian Party “AKOA” has asked Madrid to assume its historic responsibilities in contributing to the decolonization of Western Sahara, reiterating solidarity with the Saharawi people, in a decision concluded a meeting held Friday.


The Party stopped at the flagrant violations of human rights committed in occupied Western Sahara, and the humanitarian condition experienced by the Saharawi refugees, which based mainly on international cooperation and assistance.

President of Republic heads to Addis Ababa for 19th African Union Summit

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), July 14, 2012 (SPS) - The Secretary General of the Saharawi Presidency, Mr. Daf Mohamed Fadel, oversaw Saturday at headquarters of the Saharawi Red Crescent the delivering of an Algerian caravan of humanitarian aid provided for the benefit of the Saharawi refugees.


The Caravan has been delivered by Vice-President of the Algerian Red Crescent, Mr. Khaled Boudiaf.

Health of Sahrawi political prisoner Rtimi seriously deteriorating, says Ambassador Brahim Ghali

Algiers, July 14, 2012 (SPS) - Health of the Sahrawi political prisoner Sahel Rtimi, on hunger strike for 34 days, has seriously deteriorated, said Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algeria, Mr. Brahim Ghali.
 

"The health of Sahel Rtimi has worsened and required his transfer to the prison infirmary," Mr. Ghali told Algerian Press Service (APS).
 

SADR and Ecuador sign on Understanding Memorandum to develop bilateral relations

Quito (Ecuador), July 13, 2012 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and Republic of Ecuador signed Thursday on a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the bilateral relations, according to a communiqué issued Friday by the Saharawi Embassy in Caracas.


The memorandum was signed by the Saharawi Ambassador to Venezuela Mr. Mbeirik Ahmed and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Integration of Ecuador Mr. Ricardo Patiño.

Work of 21st Ordinary Session of AU Executive Council continues in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, July 13, 2012 (SPS) - Work of the Twenty-First Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union continues Friday for the second day, in preparation for the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union scheduled in the current July 15-16 in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.


The AU Executive Council, which includes ministers of foreign affairs of Member States of the African Union, to discuss the issues that will be submitted to the Summit of Heads of State and Government for approval.

Catherine Ashton supports UN efforts for a solution providing for self-determination of Saharawi people

Brussels, July 13, 2012 (SPS) - The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, confirmed support to the efforts made by the UN Secretary General to reach a political solution providing right to self-determination for the Saharawi people, in a letter to the Saharawi Minister Delegate for Europe Mr. Mohamed Sidati, responding to a letter sent June 13.

RFK Center Condemns Brutal Attack against Aminatu Haidar’s Children

Washington (USA) July12,2012(SPS) The Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights (RFK Center)  on Tuesday expressed  deep concern for the welfare and safety of the children of human rights defender Aminatou Haidar, who were beaten by unidentified assailants on July 8.
 

 The Center considered this attack as a “part of a larger pattern of abuses against Sahrawi children, which have been provoked by racist media coverage.”
 

Ban Ki-moon maintains "full confidence" in Christopher Ross

New York,July11,2012(SPS)  - Secretary General of the United Nations  Ban Ki-moon, has "full confidence" in his personal envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, UN associate spokesperson Farhan Haq told APS Wednesday.
 

In reply to a question about the news reported recently by a London-based Arab daily according to which many diplomats refused to replace the Ban Ki-moon's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Haq said, without further comment, "UN secretary general has full confidence in Christopher Ross."
 

SADR and Nicaragua agree to establish parliamentary group of friendship
