UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to visit occupied Western Sahara and Morocco on September

Geneva, Sept 7, 2012 (SPS) - The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan E. Méndez, is going to visit the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Morocco from 14 to 21 September, 2012 to prepare a comprehensive report about the violations of human rights in the world, informed a source diplomatic source from Geneva.


Media underlined that the visit comes in a time when Moroccan occupation authorities try to “cover the miserable conditions experienced by the Saharawi political prisoners in the prisons of Morocco.”

Arrest of five young Saharawis in occupied city of Dakhla

Dakhla(occupied territories), Spt 6, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan authorities of occupation have arrested on Wednesday night  five young Saharawi in occupied city of Dakhla following their participation in peaceful protest calling for freedom and independence, said Sharawi human rights source.

 

The Saharawi masses has chanted, during the peaceful protest, the national slogns, calling for enabling self-determination and the release of the Saharawi Political prisoners in Moroccan jails, underlined the source.

Shahed Elhafed (Saharawi refugee camps), Spt 6, 2012 (SPS) -The Saharawi coordinator with MINORSO Mhamed Khadad held talks on Thursday  with The Special Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber, at the headquarters of the central Protocol, Shahed Elhafed.

 

The meeting discussed the last developments of the Saharawi cause on the light of the report of the UN Secretary General on Western Sahara

 

Parliament of Zimbabwe expresses support for the struggle of the Saharawi people

Harare, Spt 6, 2012 (SPS) - The Director of External Relations at the Parliament of Zimbabwe, Godfrey Chipare, expressed the support of the Parliament of Zimbabwe to the struggle of the Saharawi people, during a meeting with Saharawi Embassador  in Harare, Mohamed Saleh Edeich, according to a statement from the Saharawi Embassy in Harare.

 

 Zimbabwean offical denounced the "obstinacy" of Morocco to the peace process, calling it a "violation of international law and international law," said the same source.

 

French human rights activists call on Morocco’s King to release Sahrawi prisoners

Paris, Spt 6, 2012 (SPS)- French human rights activists call on Morocco’s King to intervene for the release of 22 Sahrawi prisoners of conscience, "arbitrarily" held in Salé prison for over a year and a half.

 

In an "urgent" call, these activists, members of Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture (ACAT-France), underlined that these political prisoners, arrested following the dismantling of Gdeim Izik Camp (near the occupied city of Al-Ayun) on 8 November 2010, are prosecuted in the military court in Rabat, despite their civil status.

  Washington, Spt 6, 2012 (SPS)- Robert Kennedy Centre preliminary report on human rights shed light on "damning" truths which have not been taken in consideration by UN Security Council, said Mhamed Khedad, Sahrawi coordinator to UN mission for Western Sahara referendum (Minurso).
 

speaking to the Algerian newspaper "Al Khabar", Khadad added that the document cites damning truths about violations of human rights in Western Sahara that have been overshadowed by the Security Council.

International delegation of human rights says it worked freely in Saharawi refugee camps

  Washington, Spt 5, 2012 (SPS) -The international delegation of human rights headed by the President of Ropert F Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, Kerry Knnedy,  asserted it has worked freely during its visit to the Saharawi refugee camps.

 

“The delegation walked freely in the camps and interviewed several people, including members of civil society and individual refugees” said the RFK Center in a preliminary report on its visit to the occupied Western Sahara and Saharawi refugee camps.

 Washington, Spt 5, 2012 (SPS) -The delegation of Ropert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights has highlighted on Monday the success of institutions of Sahatawi Arab Democratic Republic in organizung the refugee camps, praising the role of the Saharawi women.

Tehran, Sept 2, 2012 (SPS) - President of the Algerian Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah, praised the constant support of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to the struggle of the Saharawi people and their right to self-determination, addressing NAM’s 16th Summit on Friday.


Mr. Bensalah expressed Algeria’s support to the efforts being made by the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Ki-moon and his Personal Envoy Christopher Ross for a “just and durable” solution to the conflict of Western Sahara.
