Algerian organizations and Saharawi delegation call on UN to assume its responsibilities in Western Sahara

Algiers, Sept 8, 2012 (SPS) - The Algerian National Committee of Solidarity with the Saharawi People (CNASPS), Algerian National Commission for Human Rights Promotion and Protection (CNCPPDH) and a Saharawi delegation called Friday, in Algiers, on the United Nations Organization to fulfill its responsibilities on the question of Western Sahara.


At a consultation meeting following the publication of RFK Centre report on human rights situation in the occupied Saharawi territories, refugee camps and Morocco, the three parts deplore “the violations identified and confirmed by the report.”


President of CNASPS Mr. Mahrez Alamari stated that the purpose of the meeting is “to reaffirm support for the fight and combat of Saharawi people and to send a strong message to the UN before the General Assembly.”


Mr. Alamari added that the UN has a historic and political responsibility towarsd the Saharawi question and should “put an end to the situation in Western Sahara and assume its role is also to expand the mandate of the MINURSO and to expose the crimes committed in silence by Morocco in the occupied territories.” (SPS)
