Polisario Front reaffirms its call for EU intervention to end repression in the occupied Western Sahara

Brussel, Oct 22, 2011 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has urgently called on the EU to intervene in order to put an end to the acts of repression and killing in Western Sahara.

“We reaffirm our urgent and official call on the European Union to immediately intervene for putting an end to the acts of repression and killing,” said Mr. Mohamed Sidati, minister delegate in charge of Europe, in a letter addressed Thursday to the EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Catherine Ashton.

Nigerian PDP reaffirms support to Saharawis struggle for freedom and independence

Abuja, Oct 22, 2011 (SPS) - The President of the Ruling People’s Democratic Party in Nigeria (PDP), Mr. Abubakar Kao Baraje, has reaffirmed the support of its country to the struggle of the Saharawis for freedom and independence, which stems from “its principled traditions to support the just causes and right of peoples to self-determination,” during his hosting on Wednesday to the Saharawi Ambassador in Abuja, Mr. Oubi Bachraya.

Saharawi diplomat received by President of Human Rights Commission of Chilean Senate

Santiago de Chile, October 19, 2011 (SPS) - Saharawi Ambassador on a mission, Mohamed Laroussi Zroug, was received Friday by the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Chilean Senate, Mariano Ruiz-Esquide, who informed him about the latest developments concerning  the humanitarian and political situation in Western Sahara, according to an officials source close to MFA.

 

Western Sahara: Mauritania holds to its official position of strict neutrality (Ould Abdelaziz)

Shaheed El Hafed, October 19, 2011 (SPS) - The President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Abdelaziz has indicated in an interview with Channel Medi 1 Sat, that his country adheres to its official position of "strict neutrality" regarding the conflict of Western Sahara, pointing out that Mauritania is present in the negotiations for the settlement of the Sahara conflict under the auspices of the United Nations.

 

Polisario Front seizes UN on "incongruity" of candidacy of Morocco to Security Council

New York (United Nations), October 18, 2011 (SPS) -  The Polisario Front seized the Permanent Representatives of States to the United Nations on the "incongruity" of the application submitted by Morocco to be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

 

The election of five non-permanent members of the Security Council for the period 2012-2013 is scheduled for next Friday, in which two seats must be awarded to African as a replacement of Nigeria and Gabon whose term has expired.

Algiers, October 19, 2011 (SPS) The Minister of Culture, Khadija Hamdi asserted Sunday that the fifth edition of ARTIFARITI is a means to express our solidarity with our brothers in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, suffering repression and torture by Moroccan authorities, in a statement to the Spanish agency EFE.

 

This year's edition is celebrated under the slogan "solidarity with the Saharawi people in its struggle for freedom" and coincides with the bloody events in the occupied city of Dakhla (Western Sahara), she added.

UK encourages parties to engage with UN for solution enabling self-determination of Saharawi people (Hague)

Rabat, October 19, 2011 (SPS) - The United Kingdom encourages the parties to the conflict of Western Sahara (Morocco and Polisario Front) to engage in the United Nations effort to reach a mutually acceptable political solution, allowing the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara,  affirmed Monday in Rabat the British Foreign Minister, Mr. William Hague.

Moroccan occupation authorities forcibly expel young Saharawi to the Western Sahara borders with Mauritania

Gargarat (Western Sahara), Oct 16, 2011 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation authorities has forcibly expelled the young Saharawi, Alyen Mohamed Salem, from his country, Western Sahara, to the borders with Mauritania, after he demanded the right to job and life in dignity.

According to a statement of the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad, the young Saharawi was thrown out from the occupied city of El Aaiun to the Western Sahara borders with Mauritania earlier this week, before his documents being stripped.

Italian mayor urges his country´s authorities to intervene to stop repression against Sahrawi people

Rome, Oct 14,2011 (SPS)- The Mayor of the Italian region of Tuscany, Pelago Renzo Zucchini, has called on the highest Italian authorities to intervene to put an end to repression perpetrated by Morocco against the Sahrawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, said Saturday a media source in Rome.

In a letter addressed to the Italian President and dignitaries in the Italian State, Mr. Zucchini denounced the new wave of harassment and repression carried out by Morocco against the Saharawi people in the occupied territories.

Spanish lawyers prevented from visiting Saharawi political prisoners in Sale’s jail

Sale (Morocco), Oct 15, 2011 (SPS) - The Moroccan authorities prevented Friday two Spanish lawyers from visiting the Saharawi human rights activist, political detainee and President of the Committee of Support UN Peace Plan and the Protection of Natural Resources of Western Sahara, Sidi Ahmed Lamjeid, in the Moroccan prison of Sale.

Sale’s administration refused the request of the Spanish lawyers, Candela Carrera and Andres Marin, to visit the human rights activist without offering an excuse.

African Parliament approves resolution calling on AU states to sanction Morocco
