Delegation from occupied territories takes part in 36th anniversary of National Unity Declaration

February 27th School (Saharawi refugee camps), October 12, 2011 (SPS)- A delegation of 40 Sahrawi human rights activists representing the Sahrawi occupied territories, south of Morocco and university arrived Tuesday in the Saharawi refugee camps to take part in the festivities commemorating the double anniversary of National Unity Day and the establishment of Gdeim Izik camp .

Republic of Uruguay will continue to defend the right of Saharawi people to self-determination

United Nations (New York), Oct 12, 2011 (SPS) - The Republic of Uruguay has reiterated his country’s full support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.

Speaking on Monday to the UN Decolonization Committe, Mr. Martin Vidal, permanent representative of Uruguay to the UN, hoped that the Polisario Front and Morocco “would resume talks sooner,” expressing the support of his country to the resolution 1514 as well as to the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his personal envoy to reach “a just and durable solution.” (SPS)

Bolivia calls for guaranteeing the right of Saharawi people to self-determination

United Nations (New York), Oct 12, 2011 (SPS) - The Permanent Representative of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Mr. Rafael Archondo, expressed Monday the support of his country to the efforts undertaken by the UN to reach “a solution guaranteeing the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination.”

In a speech before the UN Special Committee on Decolonization, the Bolivian diplomat expressed disappointment in the fact that after 50 years since the adoption of the resolution 1514 “there are still peoples under the yoke of colonialism” (SPS)

Saharawi people commemorate the double anniversary of National Unity Day and Gdeim Izik camp

February 27th School (Saharawi refugee camps), Oct 12, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi people has celebrated Wednesday the double anniversaries 36th of the Declaration of National Unity in 1975 and first of the establishment of Gdeim Izik camp on 2010, in the presence of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, along with members of the National Secretariat and SADR government, in addition to national and foreign delegations.

Angola attaches great importance to decolonization and self determination in Western Sahara

Afrika Kontakt demands an urgent action by UN to protect the Saharawi civilians in the occupied Western Sahara

Copenhagen, Oct 11, 2011 (SPS) - The Danish NGO, Afrika Kontakt, called on the UN to make urgent actions to protect the Saharawi civilians against the repression and human rights violations committed by Moroccan settlers and security forces, in a letter forwarded Tuesday to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms. Navi Pillay, related to the recent rising deterioration of human rights situation in the Saharawi occupied cities of Dakhal and El Aaiun.

EU remains concerned about the implications of Western Sahara conflict, says Witold Sobków

United Nations (New York), Oct 11, 2011 (SPS) - “The European Union remains concerned about the implications of the Western Sahara conflict for security and cooperation in the region,” assured Mr. Witold Sobków, ambassador of Poland to the United Nations and expressed the EU’s support for the UN efforts to achieve a solution providing the self-determination of the Saharawi people.

October 10: National Day of Sahrawi tent

Shaheed El Hafed, October 10, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi people celebrates this October 10th, day of the Saharawi tent, to commemorate the first anniversary of the installation of the protest camp of Gdeim Izik, October 10, 2010, 12 km east of occupied El Aaiun, said a statement of the Ministry of Information.

 

"The event is of special significance in the emphasis on "the status of the tent" in the identity, history and Sahrawi people's resistance through the ages," the source said.

 

Sahrawi graduate deprived of employment for political positions of his family

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), October 10, 2011 (SPS) - Saharawi graduates, Idriss Sid'Ahmed Dembar Abdel Wahab, was denied the right to work by the Moroccan authorities due to political positions of his family, which refused the burial of his brother Saeed Dembar, assassinated last December by a Moroccan police officer in occupied El Aaiun, according to Sahrawi judicial source.

 

Pan African Parliament calls AU for independence of Western Sahara

Midrand (South Africa), October 10, 2011 (SPS) - The Pan-African Parliamentarians met in Midrand (Johannesburg) at the Fifth Ordinary Session of the Second Pan-African Parliament (PAP)called on the African Union (AU) so that it makes decisions to end the colonization of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) by Morocco.

 

British NGO calls for protecting human rights in occupied Dakhla

London, October 10, 2011 (SPS) Western Sahara Campaign in Britain, is calling to sign a petition urging  the UN to protect human rights in Dakhla and investigate the events in this city, said Saturday in London Mr. Ken Ritchie, Executive Member of the organization.

 

Ministers Council denounces repression of Saharawi citizens in occupied Dakhla

Shaheed El Hafed, October 10, 2011 (SPS) - The Council of Ministers denounced Saturday the "repressive" practices perpetrated by Moroccan forces and settlers against Sahrawi defenseless citizens in the occupied city of Dakhla since  September 25, said a statement sanctioning a meeting of the Council of Ministers.

 

The Council reiterated the need for an "urgent" intervention of the UN to protect lives and properties of Saharawi citizens in the city, in order to "avoid the worst," the statement added.

Uganda urges UN to complete decolonization process in Western Sahara
