Sahrawi people celebrates National Day of Khaima, symbol of resistance and incubator of revolution

Wilaya of Awsard (Refugee Camps), 10 October 2022 (SPS) - The Sahrawi people celebrate today, Monday, the National Day of the Sahrawi Khaima (tent), in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of the "Gdeim Izik" epic, whose first tent was erected on this day in 2010 east of the occupied city of El-Aaiun.
The anniversary of the National Day of the Sahrawi Khaima is of particular importance in emphasizing the "significance of the Khaima " in the identity, history and resistance of the Saharawi people throughout the ages.

UN 4th Committee: Petitioners point finger at "occupying State"

New York (United Nations), 10 October 2022 (SPS) - Several speakers stressed, before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, in New York, that Western Sahara was a case of decolonization and illegal occupation by the Kingdom of Morocco, in violation of international humanitarian law, accusing, among other things, the "occupying State" of refusing to organize a referendum on self-determination on the grounds that an autonomy plan would be more appropriate.

New York (United Nations), 10 October 2022 (SPS) - French human rights activist Claude Mangin-Asfari, from the Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (AARSD), called before the 4th Commission of the UN General Assembly, in New York, for extending the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) to include human rights monitoring for all Sahrawis living in the area occupied by Morocco.

SPLA carries out new attacks against positions of the Moroccan occupying forces

Birlahlou, 9 October 2022 (SPS) - Units of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) carried out new attacks against positions of the Moroccan occupation forces in the sectors of Mahbes and Haouza, indicated Sunday the Ministry of Defense in its military communiqué N 653.
According to the communiqué, advanced units of SPLA targeted the Moroccan occupation forces in the regions of Akouira Ould Ablal and Tnouched in the sector of Mahbes and Fedra El Ach in the sector of Haouza.

Brussels (Belgium), 9 October 2022 (SPS) - Member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front in charge of Europe and the European Union, Mr. Abbi Bushraya Bashir, commenting on the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs' abandonment of a map that annexed Western Sahara to Morocco, has affirmed that the Polisario Front took note of this change with regard to the issue of borders on the Foreign Ministry's website as well as Sanchez's address to the General Assembly, which remained a small and symbolic step but was in the right direction.

Russia stresses importance of just solution to conflict in Western Sahara

Moscow, 9 October 2022 (SPS) - Russia has stressed the importance of finding a "just" and "mutually acceptable" solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, during a meeting Friday in Moscow between its head of diplomacy Sergei Lavrov, and the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura.
During the meeting, the two men discussed the situation in Western Sahara and the state and prospects of the settlement process of this conflict, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated on Telegram.

Announcement of return of “Fi-Sahara” Film Festival in its 17th edition

Madrid, 8 October 2022 (SPS) - The 17th edition of the Film Festival "Fi-Sahara" was announced Friday in Madrid, Spain, from 11 to 16 October, under the slogan "Let's end colonialism in Western Sahara".
The official presentation ceremony of the Festival was attended by the Representative of the Polisario Front in Spain, Mr. Abdullah Arabi, and the Executive Director of the Festival, Ms. Maria Carrion, in addition to film actors Carlos Bardem and Pepe Viyuela.

Arab Committee for Solidarity with Sahrawi People: There is no alternative to enabling Sahrawi people to its right to self-determination

Damascus, 8 October 2022 (SPS) - The Arab Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi People reaffirmed that "there is no alternative to enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise its right to self-determination and independence."
During a meeting held by its Executive Bureau via teleconference, chaired by its chairman, Mahmoud Saleh, the Committee reiterated that "there is no alternative to enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise its right to self-determination, independence and freedom," stressing "the need to respect this right."

London, October 05, 2022 (SPS) - The Western Sahara Campaign UK told the High Court in UK, on Wednesday that a post-Brexit UK-Morocco trade agreement was concluded without obtaining the consent of people from the disputed Western Sahara territory.
The Western Sahara Campaign UK (WSCUK), which supports self-determination for the Saharawi people of the north-west African territory, has brought legal action against the Department for International Trade and the Treasury over the UK-Morocco Association Agreement (UKMAA).

Nouakchott, 2 October 2022 (SPS) - Mauritanian political parties received last week a delegation from the Sahrawi Republic with whom they reviewed the latest developments in the Sahrawi issue and bilateral relations between Mauritanian political parties and the Polisario Front.

African Court ruling on Western Sahara, proof of Moroccan policy failure

Gaborone, 26 September 2022 (SPS) - The ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Botswana, Malainin Lakhal, has indicated that the ruling by the African Court of Human and Peoples' Rights on the need to find a permanent solution to the Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara, was a proof of the failure of the Moroccan policy of buying consciences to legitimize this occupation.
