Lithuanian company ends phosphate imports from occupied Western Sahara

Washington (U.S.A), 26 February, 2016 (SPS) - Lithuanian fertilizer producer, Lifosa, will stop importing phosphate from occupied Western Sahara to adhere to international law announced, Thursday, EuroChem, the parent company of Lifosa.

 

The Group “does not intend to purchase phosphate rock from Western Sahara in 2016 or any time over the foreseeable future”, said Russian Group EuroChem in a letter to Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW).

 

Lifosa was one of the biggest importers of occupied Western Sahara phosphate.

Western Sahara: Morocco must "urgently" engage in negotiations with Polisario Front

PARIS-French Association of Friends of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (AARASD) called on Monday in Paris Morocco to "urgently" engage in negotiation with the Polisario Front, "instead of invective and blackmail."
The AARASD said in a letter that the King of Morocco Mohamed VI "should reasonably consider the deadlock his country reached," adding that "after 40 years, Morocco, mainly its kings Hassan II and Mohamed VI, persists in imposing to international community the fact that Western Sahara is part of Morocco."

Spanish, Algerian, Saharawi athletes dominate 2016 Sahara Marathon

Smara(Saharawi Refugee Camps) February 25, 2016 (SPS)- Spanish, Algerian and Saharawi athletes dominated the Sahara Marathon, which kicked off from the Saharawi refugee camps of al-Ayun as part of the festivities celebrating the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

Spanish runner Vicente Grandi Duque won the 42km race, followed by his compatriot, Juan Idro Garcia, and Algerian Taibi Djamel.

UN envoy for Western Sahara in visit to Morocco as part of his tour to the region

Rabat, Feb. 24, 2016 (SPS) - The Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross arrived in Rabat where he met Tuesday with Moroccan Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nacer Bourita, report news sources.

 

Wednesday, Mr. Ross will meet with the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar, say the same sources.
 

Spain supports UN efforts allowing Sahrawi people exercise right to self-determination

Madrid, February 24, (SPS) - Spanish authorities affirmed their continual support to UN efforts allowing the finding of a just and lasting solution to the Sahrawi cause.

 "Spain supports international efforts to find a just and lasting political solution (...) that guarantees the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination," said Spanish Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Ignacio Ibanez.

Spanish Vicente Grande Duque wins medal of Sahara Marathon 16

Smara (Sahrawi Refugee Camps), Feb 24, 2015 (SPS) - The Spanish runner, Vicente Grande Duque , won the medal of 42-km-long in the 16th of Sahara Marathon.

In relevant context, the Algerian runner Thabit Wadih won the semi-Marathon (21 km), which started from the Wilaya of Auserd onwards Smara.

Whereas, the Sahrawi athletes Salahdin Amedan won (10 km), and Manana Abba Chej won (05 km) race.

The Sahara Marathon starts from El-Aaiun refugee camps and the finish line is in Smara camps.

Occupied Territories delegation takes part in SADR fortieth anniversary activities

Chahid El-Hafed(Saharawi refugee camps), February  24, 2016 (SPS) -A delegation from the occupied territories  of Western Sahara participate in the  activities celebrating the fortieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) and 16th  edition of "Sahara Marathon".

 
 

During its visit, the delegation from the occupied territories will visit several wilayas and institutions and as well as hold official meetings with officials and members of the Saharawi government. SPS

 

500 participants at 16th Sahara Marathon

Smara(Saharawi Refugee Camps) February 23, 2016 (SPS)-Some 500 participants from about twenty countries are expected to take part Tuesday in the 16th Sahara-Marathon, the event's organizing committee said Monday.

The sporting event is part of the celebration programme marking the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) on 27 February 1976, the Saharawi minister of Youth and Sports, Ahmed Lahbib Abdi, told reporters.

Smara(Sahrawi Refugee Camps), February 23, 2016 (SPS) -The Head of the Sahrawi delegation to negotiations with Morocco for the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara, Khatri Addouh hoped Monday, in Smara, that the upcoming visit of the United Nations’ Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, to the region, is a “strong message” to the Moroccan occupier, who continues to create obstacles for the efforts of the international community.

 

Sahara Marathon 16th edition kicks off today
