Department of State rejects decision of Congress concerning use in Western Sahara of aid for Morocco

Washington, January 11, 2016 (SPS) - The Department of State has rejected a provision of the Congress on the use in Western Sahara of a controversial financial aid, destined for Morocco, members of American Parliament told APS on Sunday.

 

The financial aid in question is an aid granted to Morocco under the 2016 US federal budget and whose funds can be used in Western Sahara.

President of Republic appoints Abelkader Taleb Omar prime minister

Shaheed El-Hafed, January 9, 2016 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the polidario Front, Mogamed Abdelaziz, appointed Saturday Abelkader Taleb Omar as the prime minister.

 

According to a statement of the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the Republic received Saturday Abelkader Taleb Omar, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, and entrusted him to form the new government.

 

Re-opening of Sahrawi Embassy in the Republic of Panama (Foreign Ministry statement)

Chahid Hafed, January 07, 2015 (SPS) – the Sahrawi embassy in Republic of Panama opened today, where Mr. Ali Mahmud began his work as the ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sahrawi Republic to the sister Republic of Panama, said a foreign ministry statement.

The Republic of Panama is the first Latin American country to recognize SADR, and has historical ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation with the Saharawi Republic for nearly four decades.

Swedish Social Democratic Party reaffirms Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

Stockholm, January 07, 2016 (SPS) -  The Swedish Social Democratic Party reaffirmed the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in a letter recently sent to the Polisario Front, congratulating it for the smooth running of its 14th congress.

“The Swedish Social Democratic Party supports the Sahrawi people’s right to live in a democratic, free and independent State. We firmly condemn any occupation of the Sahrawi territory,” said the party in a letter, extracts of which were published by the Sahrawi news agency SPS.

Unemployed Sahrawis subject to repression and humiliation in occupied El Aaiun

Occupied El Aaiun, January 06, 2016 (SPS) - a group of unemployed Sahrawi on Tuesday were subjected to physical and verbal assaults by the Moroccan occupation police officers in civilian uniforms and by various  formations of the auxiliary forces in the occupied El Aaiun, reported by The Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).

Bir Lahlou(Saharawi liberated territories) January 05, 2016 (SPS) - the President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, sent a congratulatory letter to his Cuban counterpart Raul Castro on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
President Mohamed Abdelaziz expressed, in his own name and on behalf of the Saharawi Government and people, his warmest and heartfelt congratulations, to his counterpart and to the Cuban people on the occasion.

Swiss Support Committees launch petition to call for self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

Geneva, January 4, 2016 (SPS) - The Swiss Support Committees for the Saharawi have launched a Petition to the UN Security Council to require the immediate organization of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara.

 

The petition, from 1 January to 15 August 2016, called for worldwide support for this petition. The petition stressed that it’s time to find a solution to the conflict in Western Sahara,” adding that the Saharawi must at last be able to exercise their right to self-determination.

 

Issuing "unjust" sentence against Sahrawi political prisoners, surrounding family home of another

Smara (Occupied Territories), January 3, 2016 (SPS) – The Moroccan Court in the occupied city of Smara has issued "unjust" ruling against Sahrawi militant Abido Boutabaa of 8 months in prison under “false” charges, according to the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

The Sahrawi militant has always participated in the demonstrations organized in Smara occupied city demanding the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, the source indicated.

 

Transfer of Sahrawi political prisoner to hospital

Rabat (Morocco) January 3, 2016 (SPS) – The administration of Sale prison 1 transferred on Wednesday, Saharawi political prisoner Mohamed Embarek Lefkir, among Gdeim Izik group, the Ibn Sina University Hospital in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.

 

The Sahrawi political prisoner had spent about 25 days in the same hospital where he underwent a surgery, but medical negligence and delays in the completion of remedial action by the prison clinic and staff resulted in serious complications at the level of his knee.

Spain has “historical debt” to Sahrawi people

Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), 1 January 2016 (SPS) - The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, congratulates the people of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) under the leadership of the Polisario Front for the successful convening of the 14th Polisario Front Congress held in Dakhla, refugee camps.

 

In a letter Thursday, the African Union congratulates H.E. Mohamed Abdelaziz for his re-election as Secretary General of the Polisario Front, and President of SADR.
