Saharawi refugee camps host concertation table on health

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 26, 2014 (SPS) - The 13th edition of the concertation and coordination table on health sector on Saturday kicked off in Chahid Al Hafed, Saharawi refugee camps.


The two-day event is jointly organized by the Saharawi Health Ministry and some other international donor organizations working in the camps.

Commencement of political conferences for election of secretaries of local and primary branches

Shaheed Elhafed, October 25, 2014 (SPS) – The political conferences for the election of thesecretaries of the local and primary branches for the year 2014 kicked off Saturday in all constituencies and municipalities in the Sahrawi refugee camps.

 

The political conferencesaim at strengthening and activating the performance of the branches and bodies of political organization and involving the population in the camps in the renewal of structures and choosing their political leader on the basis of efficiency.

  

Documentary "Raíces y Clamor" exhibited in British House of Commons

 London, October 25, 2014 (SPS) - The British House of Commons will host Monday documentary "Raíces y Clamor", which reflects the struggle of the Saharawi people.

 

The event which takes place at 18:00 is organized by International Organization "Liberation", and directed by Sahrawi Ebbaba Hameida Hafed who is accompanied by Maggie Bowden, General Secretary of International Organization "Liberation".

 

British Library launches collection of Sahrawi songs on its website

 London, October 25, 2014 (SPS) – The British Librarylaunched recently on its website on the internet a collection of Sahrawi national songs, according to the Polisario Front representation in Britain.

 

The British Library confirmed that the collection includes diversities of Sahrawi songs, traditional, revolutionary and modern, with the aim of showing the “richness of the cultural heritage of the Saharawi people, who lived in exile since 1975”.

 

Fourth anniversary of fall of 1st martyr in Gdeim Izik epic

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 24, 2014 (SPS) - Today, October 24th, marks the 4th anniversary of the fall of the first martyr in the heroic epic of Gdeim Izik, a Saharawi protect camp violently dismantled by Moroccan occupying forces on 8 November 2010.


The 14-year-old young Saharawi child, Najem Al-Garhi, fell a martyr, after Moroccan occupying forces fired live bullets at him.

Diplomat Abba Malainin discusses Saharawi human rights with Amnesty International officials

Copenhagen (Denmark) Oct 23, 2014 (SPS) - POLISARIO Representative in Denmark, Mr. Abba Malainin, on Thursday held talks with Mr. Joakim Lundström, Political Advisor and Team leader Policy at Amnesty International - Denmark branch.


The meeting was an opportunity to the Saharawi Diplomat to unveil Morocco’s ongoing brutal and systematic violations against the Saharawi’s political, social and economical rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

Italian Senate adopts two motions of support to Western Sahara

Rome, Oct 23, 2014 (SPS) - Two motions of support for the Saharawi cause were adopted by the Upper House of the Italian Republic, according to the resolutions published in Rome by the institution.


Both motions commit the Italian government to “activating” internationally so as the mandate of MINURSO will be updated on the basis of the most recent similar models approved by the Security Council, including in particular the specific tasks in the area of human rights, say the resolutions of which APS obtained a copy Thursday.

CODESA meets representatives of US Embassy in Rabat

El Aaiún (occupied territories), Oct 23, 2014 (SPS) - A delegation of the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) on Wednesday evening held talks in El Aaiún, capital of Western Sahara, with the Political Adviser and his deputy at the U.S. Embassy in Rabat.


The 45-minute discussion focused on the terrible situation of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, said a statement of CODESA.

Slovenia renews support to self-determination of Saharawi people

Ljubljana, Oct 23, 2014 (SPS) - Chairman of the Slovenian Parliament’s External Relations Committee, Jozef Horvat, reaffirmed his country’s support to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, voicing support to UN-led mediation to find a peaceful solution to the conflict if Western Sahara.

Murcia University organizes days of solidarity with Saharawi people

Murcia (Spain), Oct 22, 2014 (SPS) - Polisario Front Representation in collaboration with the University of Murcia will organize the 3rd edition of the days of solidarity with the Saharawi people, in the period from 28 until 31 October 2014.


In the aim to ensure the success of the programme of political and cultural activities of the scheduled for the event, Saharawi Representative to Murcia, Mohamed Labat Mustafa, met with Mr. Bernardo Cáscales Salinas, Vice-president of Murcia University in charge of International Coordination.

POLISARIO Representative received at Danish Social Democratic Party

Human Rights Council strengthened by strong supporters of Saharawi people

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 22, 2014 (SPS) - Human Right Council of the United Nations has been strengthened by new Member States, who are staunch supporters and advocates for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and freedom.


The Council, in this respect, on Tuesday elected Nigeria, Botswana, El Salvador, Ghana and Bolivia, which are countries recognizing the Saharawi Republic (SADR) and maintains diplomatic relations with it.

Culture Ministry examines final preparation for ARTifariti 2014

Seville (Andalusia, Spain), Oct 21, 2014 (SPS) - Minister of Culture Ms. Khadija Hamdi on Monday met with organizers of the 8th edition of the International Arts and Human Rights Encounters in the Western Sahara (known as; ARTifariti), to be held from 1 until 8 November 2014 in the Wilaya of Boujdour.


Attended by ARTifariti Director, Fernando Peraita, and the Saharawi Representative Mr. Abidin Buchraya, the meeting was devoted to examine the final preparation for the event.

RFK Center concerned over death of Saharawi political prisoner

Washington DC, Oct 21, 2014 (SPS) - Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights has expressed concern over the death and unauthorized burial of the Saharawi political prisoner, Hassana El-Ouali, while in custody.


In a statement issued on October 15, RFK Center President, Kerry kennedy, said the preventing the family to claim Hassana’s remains only makes the Moroccan violation of human rights “more abhorrent.”

Adala UK urges EU to hold Morocco to account for human rights abuses

London, Oct 21, 2014 (SPS) - The UK-based non-governmental organization, Adala, has called upon the European Union (EU) to hold the Kingdom of Morocco to account for its human rights violations against the Saharawi people.


In a letter addressed to the 73 British MEP, Adala UK urged the MEP to use their influence to make known the issue of human rights violations that occur on a daily basis in occupied Western Sahara and to ensure that the EU holds its economic and political partner, the Kingdom of Morocco, to account for these.

German association condemns continuous human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara

Berlin, October 20, 2014 (SPS) -  The German association, Liberty for Western Sahara, has condemned the continuous violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in a statement Sunday.

 

In this context, the association mourned the Sahrawi prominent activist of human rights, member of the committee against torture, who died on September 27th, in the hospital in Dakhla, where he had been prisoner for three years and suffered torture.   

 

Saharawi workers celebrate National Day of Workers

Shaheed Elhafed, October 20, 2014 (SPS) Saharawi workers celebrated Monday the workers’ National Day, which coincides with the operation of detonating the conveyor beltofBucraa phosphate in El Aaiun, on October 20, 1974, to stop the illegal exploitation of Saharawi resources.

 

In a statement, the GeneralUnion of Saguia El Hamra and Rio de Oro (UGTSARIO) expressed its warmest felicitationto all Saharawi workers on this day and its solidarity and support tothe Saharawi workers in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

Sahrawi Committee for Human Rights expresses satisfaction at report of Human Rights Watch

 Birlehlu (Liberated Territories), October 20, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi National Committee for Human Rights has expressed its satisfaction at the report of Human Rights Watchon Saturday, which did not record any gross violations of human rights in the Sahrawi refugee camps.  

 

In a statement,the Sahrawi committee commended the attention paid by Human Rights Watch to this issue and efforts made, which complete its previous report on human rights violations in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
