European Parliament examines latest developments in Western Sahara

Brussels, Oct 8, 2014 (SPS) - The European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs has has held a meeting devoted to the study and examination of the situation in Western Sahara, in the light of the ongoing serious developments in the occupied Saharawi territories.


During the meeting, the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said that the Union supports the UN efforts for a just and lasting political solution to the conflict of Western Sahara.

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 8, 2014 (SPS) - Prime Minister Abdelkader Taleb Omar received Tuesday evening at his office in Chahid Al Hafed, Saharawi refugee camps, a delegation of the Norwegian Labour Party Youth.


During the meeting, PM said that the Nordic countries must play a more vital role in pushing for a settlement to the Western Sahara issue, given that they are states free from any pressure by the Moroccan regime, like that exerted on France and Spain.

Spanish lawyers delegation in New York to defend Saharawi people right to self-determination

Murcia regional parliament “deeply” concerned about human rights situation in Western Sahara

Murcia (Spain), October 7, 2014 (SPS) - The President of the General Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Murcia (Parliament), Francisco Vidal Celdrán, expressed support for the just struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and self-determination, stressing that a motion recommending the "immediate and unconditional" release of Saharawi political prisoners will be adopted soon.

 

Spanish National Court judge listens to Sahrawi witnesses on Moroccan genocide in Western Sahara

Madrid (Spain), October 6, 2014 (SPS) - Spanish National Court Judge Mr. Pablo Ruz listened Monday to seven Sahrawi witnesses on the genocide committed by the Moroccan Royal Army against Sahrawi citizens during its invasion to Western Sahara.

 

The Sahrawi witnesses explained in detail to the Spanish National Court judge  what the Sahrawi citizens suffered of abuse, ill-treatment, torture, interrogations, disappearances and killings in front of their beloved ones in many cases.

 

UK government called to “publicly” condemn human rights violations committed by Moroccan authorities

London, October 6, 2014 (SPS) - Adala UK has called the UK government to publicly condemn the human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities in the occupied Western Sahara, in a letter sent to Foreign Secretary Mr. Philip Hammond.  

 

 “We hope the UK government will publicly condemn the human rights violations committed by the Moroccan authorities, with particular reference to the tragic case of Hasana El Wali,” said the UK-based NGO campaigning for human rights in Moroccan-occupied Western Sahara.

 

SADR condemns burial of Saharawi political prisoner Hasena Elwali in absence of his family

In a letter of Bernard Savage, speaking on behalf of the European diplomacy chief Catherine Ashton, in response to the letter of Mohamed Sidati, Sahrawi Minister and Polisario Front representative in Europe, about Hassana Elouali’s death, EU offers condolences to the family of the deceased and the Sahrawi people.

In a letter Friday President Mohamed Abdelaziz also extended his congratulations to the people of Algeria, praising the pioneering role played by Algeria in favor of peace, security and stability in Africa and the world.

 

Algerian border guards seize over 187 kilos of cannabis coming from Morocco

Oran, October 2, 2014 (SPS)  - The Algerian border guards of Tlemcen (540-km west of Algiers) seized 187.2 kilograms of processed cannabis coming from Morocco near the western border of the country, said Tuesday in Oran the National Gendarmerie.

 

This quantity of cannabis, loaded on donkeys and abandoned by the drug traffickers, was seized during a foot patrol near Lalla Aicha border outpost, said the source. (SPS)

Assassination of Saharawi activist Hassena El Ouali: CNASPS denounces "despicable" crime

Algiers, October 2, 2014 (SPS) - Algerian National Committee for Solidarity with the Saharawi people (CNASPS) Wednesday denounced a "disguised murder", a "heinous crime" against the Sahrawi human rights activist, Hassena El Ouali, after being tortured for a long time by Moroccan police at the prison of Dakhla, in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

Polisario calls on EU to act to end Moroccan human rights violations in Western Sahara

Brussels (Belgium), October 2, 2014 (SPS) - Polisario Front called on Tuesday the European Union to act to end the abuses of the Moroccan authorities in occupied Western Sahara and the violations of Sahrawi prisoners’ human rights.

 

In a letter sent to the European Commission and European Parliament, Mohamed Sidati, minister and representative of the Polisario Front in Europe, called on the European Union to help “putting an end to the Moroccan authorities’ flagrant violations of the Sahrawi prisoners’ human rights.”
