Demonstrations in Madrid against the plundering of Western Sahara natural resources

Madrid, Jan 22, 2012 (SPS) - Association of the Saharawi Students in Madrid, Spain, launched Saturday a large-scale campaign against the systematic and continuous looting of the natural resources of Western Sahara.

The campaign initiated with the organization of the first protest sit-in at Puerta Del Sol Square in the heart of the capital Madrid.

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Jan 22, 2012 (SPS) - The Committee of elections of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament) announced that the elections will be held on February 21st, after a meeting chaired by its President and Member of the National Secretariat, Mr. Mhamed Khaddad.

The Committee also decided that the political conferences will start from Feb 18 to 20, on the basis that the campaigns of the candidates and dissemination of Polisario 13th Congress’s results begin.

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Jan 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan repressive forces violently dispersed Friday peaceful sit-ins in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, calling for the application of self-determination in Western Sahara and for the release of all the Saharawi political prisoners, informed a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

The demonstrations organized in Smara and Dadach Streets as well as in the quarters of Mataala and Inach.

Presentation of 12th edition of Sahara Marathon in Madrid

Madrid, Jan 21, 2012 (SPS) - The twelfth edition of Sahara Marathon has been presented Friday in Madrid, Spain, in the presence of Mr. Diego Muñoz, director of the Marathon, representatives of solidarity movement with the Saharawi people in Spain and Polisario Representative in Spain, Mr. Buchraya Bayun.

The event will be held on February 27 to March 2, 2012 in the Saharawi refugee camps on the sidelines of the commemoration of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in 1976.

New representative of the Frente Polisario received at Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Stockholm, Jan 21, 2012 (SPS) - The New Representative of the Polisario Front to Sweden, Mr. Aliyen Kentaoui, has been received on Friday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden by senior officials who reiterated support for a just solution to Western Sahara conflict, including the self-determination of the Saharawi people.

Mr. Aliyen Kentaoui, who takes office as representative of the Polisario Front in Sweden, came to Stockholm, accompanied by his predecessor Mr. Brahim Mokhtar.

Cuba donates 530 tones of sugar for Saharawi refugees

Algiers (Algeria) January20, 2011(SPS) the Republic of Cuba, Thursday evening, presented 530 tons of sugar as a humanitarian aid for the Saharawi refugees, according to Saharawi embassy in Algiers.  

The Ambassador of Cuba in Algeria, Emilio Rodriguez, handed over this donation to the representative of the World Food Programme  in Algeria, Usama Othman,in presence of the First secretary of Saharawi embassy in Algiers Mhamed  Shikh , the first secretary of Venezuelan embassy in Algiers and representative of Algerian Red Croissant.

African MPs call for missions to monitor human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara

Addis Abeba, Jan 19, 2012 (SPS) - The Group of North Africa in the Pan African Parliament (PAP) has called on AU legislative body to send missions to monitor the human rights situation in occupied Western Sahara, Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.


In a statement concluded its meeting held Monday in Adiss Ababa, the group asked the PAP to maintain support for political reforms in Tunisia, Libya and Egypt.


It also called for the support of the Saharawi people in their struggle to self-determination and independence.

 

SADR authorities urge international organizations to help drought victims

Bir Lehlu  (Liberated Territories), Jan 19, 2012 (SPS) - SADR authorities launched Wednesday an "urgent" appeal to the UN, EU and international environmental organizations to help the drought victims in Saharawi liberated territories, in statement reached SPS.


"the Saharawi authorities appeal urgently the United Nations, the African Union, European Union and international environmental organizations to help drought victims and prevent potential human catastrophe in liberated territories of SADR, " the statement highlighted .

AMDH calls for release of Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails

Rabat (Morocco), Jan 19, 2012 (SPS) - Moroccan Association for Human Rights (AMDH) has called for the release all Saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails.


In statement concluded its 8th session held this week, AMDH condemned escalation of repression including physical aggression, arbitrary arrests unfair trials against Saharawi human rights activists in occupied territories.

Anglola renews support to Sharawi people struggle

In congratulatory message to SADR counterpart, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, on reappointment, Mr. Georges Rebelo Pinto Chikoti renewed solidarity of Angola government to the Saharawi people struggle and their right to self-determination as confirmed UN resolutions .

 

Documentary "Sons of the Clouds, The Last Colony" takes part at Berlinale 2012

Berlin, Jan 18, 2012 (SPS) -, the Documentary "Sons of the Clouds, The Last Colony" produced and starring by Spanish actor and Oscar winner, Javier Bardem will take part at 62nd Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) takes place from February 9-19 at the Berlinale Palast in Germany.

 

The film, directed by Alvaro Longoria, will have its world premiere on February 16 at the Official Selection Berlinale Special 2012.

Algeria is ready to resume building Arab Maghreb in framework of respect for international law

Tunis, Jan 17, 2012 (SPS) - Algerian President, Abdelaziz Buteflika, underlined in Tunisia his country is ready to resume building the Arab Maghreb Union in the framework of respect for international law, in speech on the sidelines of  first anniversary of Tunisian revolution that led to the fall of Ben Ali.

“We are convinced about the need to resume the construction of the Arab Maghreb Union in the framework of respect for international law,” said Mr. Buteflika .

Organizations asks Sarkozy to respect international law in Western Sahara

Madrid, January 16, 2012 (SPS) - The Coordination of the Spanish Associations of solidarity with the Saharawi people (CEAS-Sahara), Madrid Federation of Associations in solidarity with the Sahara (FEMAS) and the League of Youth and Students in Spain has asked the French President, Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, to give priority in his country’s foreign policy to international law regarding the Western Sahara conflict, in a latter on the occasion of his visit to Spain.

Spain's ruling Popular Party founder dies at 89

Madrid, Jan 16, 2012 (SPS) - Manuel Fraga Iribarne, founder of Spain's ruling Popular Party, died of heart failure late Sunday at his Madrid home, aged 89.

Fraga, a Galician, was born on Nov. 23, 1922.

After studying law and political science, he began his political career in 1945, six years after Franco won the Spanish Civil War.

Fraga's long political career spanned from the administration of Francisco Franco to the government after his death on Nov. 20, 1975.

Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers denounces the repression of its peaceful rallies
