Head of Algeria-Western Sahara Friendship Group calls on UN to honor commitments

Algiers, 7 October 2023 (SPS) - The President of the friendship and fraternity parliamentary group “Algeria-Western Sahara” Miloud Tissouh affirmed Friday, in New York, that the only acceptable framework for the decolonization of Western Sahara must be under the supervision of the United Nations, calling on it to honor its commitments towards this just cause.

Bogotá (Colombia), October 05, 2023 (SPS) - The President of Colombia, Mr. Gustavo Petro Orrego, received yesterday at the Headquarters of the State in Bogotá, the Sahrawi Ambassador, Ammah Yahdih who presented his credentials as Ambassador of the Sahrawi Republic to Colombia, in the presence of the Colombian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Álvaro Leva Duran.

During the credentials' ceremony, the Colombian President affirmed his support for the Sahrawi people in their struggle for their independence and national sovereignty.

New York, October 4, 2023 (SPS)- Mexico called for respecting the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and supporting efforts aimed at reaching a just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara, in accordance with the relevant General Assembly and Security Council resolutions.

Mexico called before the Fourth Committee to support the efforts made by the Secretary-General and his personal envoy to reach a peaceful solution to the conflict in Western Sahara.

Venezuela reaffirms its support for the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination

New York, October 4, 2023 (SPS)- Venezuela reaffirmed before the Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly its strong and firm support for the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to freedom and self-determination.

Venezuela called for a peaceful, just and lasting solution to the conflict in Western Sahara on the basis of the relevant General Assembly and UN Security Council resolutions.

Algiers, 24 September 2023 (SPS) - Several heads of State and Government reiterated, during the works of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York, the right of the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples to self-determination and independence. 

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unchanging position in favor of just causes and in support of the oppressed peoples who are fighting for freedom, notably the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes.

Use of arbitrary detention by Morocco has raised new concerns

Geneva, 23 September 2023 (SPS) - The French Movement against Racism and for Friendship between Peoples (MRAP) has expressed its concern over the excessive use of arbitrary detention by Morocco against Sahrawi political prisoners, calling on the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention to visit these detainees.

In an oral presentation to the 54th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, on Friday, the organization expressed its concern about the increasing cases of arbitrary detention that Morocco is using in an excessive manner.

De Mistura commits to continuing efforts to further peace process

Occupied El Aaiun, 10 September 2023 (SPS) - Members of the Association for Surveillance of Wealth and Environmental Protection in Western Sahara informed the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General  of the United Nations for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, during his visit to the occupied territories of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), about the various violations committed by the Moroccan occupation against the rights of the Sahrawi people, as well as the plundering of their natural resources.
