New York, 23 September 2023 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mozambique, Mrs. Veronica Macamo, reaffirmed her country's strong support for the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people for freedom and independence, and the imperative to accelerate decolonization in Western Sahara, the last colony in Africa.
This statement was made during a meeting held in New York between the Mozambican minister and the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Sidati, on the sidelines of the 78th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly following the working visit by the Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs to Mozambique last August.
They also discussed recent developments in the Sahrawi question and exchanged views on other matters of common interest at the African and international levels.
The Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs was accompanied during the UNGA session by Sidi Mohamed Omar, a member of the National Secretariat and representative of the Polisario Front at the UN and coordinator with the MINURSO mission, Mr. Brahim Mokhtar Boudjemaa, Ambassador in charge of Asia, and Mr. Ma El Ainine Salama, Advisor to the Front's representation at the UN.
