Timor-Leste calls on the UN to organise self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

New York (United Nations) 23 October 2020 (SPS)- The Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste to the United Nations, H.E. Mrs. Maria Helena Pires, called on the full implementation of the UN Mission to Western Sahara through the organization of a self-determination referendum, in her country’s statement before the 75th Ordinary Session of the UN General Assembly Fourth Committee Thursday.

Bir Lehlou (Saharawi Republic) 21 October 2020 (SPS)- The President of the Saharawi Republic and Secretary General of Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, congratulated New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, for “outstanding re-election for a second term in government”, in a letter he addressed her on October 18.

Occupied Aaiun, October 15, 2020- The Saharawi Instance against the Moroccan Occupation (ISACOM) held Monday the first session of its general assembly after its foundation on September 20, amid smear campaign and police harassment against their members.

Western Sahara conflict: Security Council, France blamed for stalemate

Algiers, October 15, 2020 (SPS) –-  Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic's Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Salek said the UN Security Council and France bear the full responsibility for the stalemate in the settlement process of the Saharawi cause and decolonization of the last colony in Africa.
Ould Salek told Channel One of the national radio that "the stalemate comes from within the Security Council, more precisely, France, which is blocking peace in the region."

On October 12, 1975, in the moment when Spain, a former colonial power, was preparing to leave Western Sahara, the representatives of the Sahrawi people held a meeting to decide on the continuation of the struggle for national liberation against a new occupier, namely, Morocco.
