Brussels, 18 October 2020 (SPS) - The Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Struggle of the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) and the Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Organization (AAPSO) intend to launch a new initiative on Western Sahara, in the form of a Declaration, called "Support of international law, human rights, and the right to self-determination for Western Sahara people, the last colony of Africa.
EUCOCO and AAPSO, supported by a group of academics, expressed their wish to see this Declaration signed by male and female academics in as many countries as possible.
"We would like, this time, to focus on the Academy, because it is a way of awakening solidarity with the people of Western Sahara," and it is also "a means of raising public awareness and obtaining the support many academics around the world for the rights of the Sahrawi people," said the EUCOCO and AAPSO in their Declaration.
This new initiative also aims at making the 10th anniversary of Gdeim Izik "an important event at the international level, to shed light on the living conditions of the Sahrawi people, and strengthen the solidarity with them,” according to the Declaration.
This initiative also aims to "bring together academics from as many countries as possible, within the framework of support for the just struggle of the Saharawi people for their self-determination," according to the two solidarity groups. (SPS)
