Algerian embassy in Brussels reaffirms Algeria’s consistent position on Western Sahara issue

Brussels (Belgium), June 25, 2016 (SPS) - The Algerian embassy in Brussels strongly reaffirmed, Friday, Algeria’s consistent position on the Western Sahara issue, which is that of the international community regarding decolonization.
“I want to strongly underline that Algeria’s position on the Western Sahara issue identifies with the international consensus and the doctrine of the United Nations regarding decolonization,” wrote the Algerian ambassador, Amar Belani in a clarification addressed to the European website, EurActiv.

Conference on Western Sahara at UN headquarters

Nueva York, June 24, 2016 (SPS) - As part of the week of solidarity with the peoples of colonized territories decreed by the Special Committee of 24, took place Wednesday at the UN headquarters, a conference on Western Sahara, by the American Professor Stephen Zunes, the latter made a brilliant exposition on the conflict in Western Sahara, its origins, development and current situation, stressing that the only solution is to apply international law and allow the Saharawi people to freely decide their future. 
 

A Saharawi delegation participates in São Paulo Forum in San Salvador

San Salvador, June 23, 2016 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation of ambassadors Souleiman Ahmed Tayeb and Mulay Ali Hamadi, is now in the Republic of El Salvador, to participate in the XXII Meeting of the Forum of São Paulo scheduled to be from 23 to 26 June
The Saharawi delegation will participate in all the workshops that will be organized at the event, such as youth, women, human rights, parliamentary forum, among others.

Algiers, June 22, 2016 (SPS) - United nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) representative in Algeria intends to call on international donors on July 12, in Geneva, for support to Saharawi refugees, according to the UN representative in Algeria.
The announcement was made Monday evening on the occasion of the International Refugee Day, marked in Algiers by a fast-breaking meal at the Palace of Culture, in the presence of African refugees and humanitarian partners.

Humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees: Donor countries to meet in Geneva in July

Algiers, June 19, 2016 (SPS) - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will hold, in July in Geneva, a meeting of the donor countries to support the humanitarian aid to the refugees of Western Sahara, said this UN agency.
“UNHCR will hold a meeting on 12 July 2016 in Geneva to call on the financial backers to contribute to the financing of the humanitarian aid for the Sahrawi refugees,” the representative of this agency in Algeria Hamdi Bukhari told APS on the eve of the celebration of the  World Refugee Day.

Morocco seeks to end peace process, says Boukhari

Washington, June 19, 2016 (SPS) - Morocco has chosen the course of confrontation with the international community to end the United Nations-led peace process, said Polisario Front's Representative to the UN Ahmed Boukhari.
In his address at the session of the Special Committee on Decolonization, held in New York on Friday, Boukhari said that the colonizing power has chosen the option of confrontation with the international community to end the peace process and push the region into the worst-case scenarios.

UN Security Council, Secretariat review progress in discussions on MINURSO return

Washington, June 19, 2016 (SPS) -The United Nations Security Council reviewed with the Secretariat the progress achieved in discussions with Moroccan authorities on return of the MINURSO's civil staff expelled by Morocco in last March.
However, no information on this meeting, held behind closed doors upon request from Venezuela, has been given.
Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous Hervé Ladsous informed the Security Council of progress in discussions held with the Moroccan government on the civil staff of the MINURSO.

CARASO denounces continued plundering of Sahrawi natural resources by Moroccan occupier

Paris (France), June 18, 2016 (SPS) - The Action and Reflection Committee for the Future of Western Sahara (CARASO) denounced, Friday, the continued plundering of Sahrawi natural resources by the Moroccan occupier, accusing France and Spain of complicity. 
“Western Sahara’s natural resources are daily transported to Europe,” said the CARASO in its communiqué, of which APS obtained a copy underlining that “long investigations were carried out because of the presence of a large number of foreign ships owned by multinational companies.”

Washington, June 17, 2016 (SPS) – The Permanent Representative of Namibia to the United Nations, H. E. Mr. Wilfried I. Emvula, reaffirmed full and unequivocal support of Namibia for the inalienable rights of the People of Western Sahara to self-determination and national  independence, in a statement Monday on Western Sahara in the UN Special Committee on Decolonization. 
The people of Western Sahara should be allowed to enjoy their inalienable rights to self-determination and national independence just like all other people, he added.

Washington, June 17, 2016 (SPS) - United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, Committee of 24, has reaffirmed Sahrawi people's right to self-determination, and expressed concern over the standstill in the UN-sponsored peace process in Western Sahara, Africa's last colony.
During the ordinary session of the Committee in New York, Algeria's representative to the UN Sabri Boukadoum said that the Western Sahara conflict "is a decolonization issue that could only be resolved by granting the Sahrawi people their inalienable right to self-determination."
