Morocco's decision to join AU, a maneuver, says Sahrawi FM

Algiers, July 24, 2016 (SPS) - Morocco’s decision to join the African Union (AU) is a "maneuver" to gain time at the international and domestic levels, said Saturday in Algiers, Sahrawi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Salek.
Holding a press conference at the Sahrawi Embassy in Algiers, Ould Salek said that Morocco's decision to join the African Union stems from its failures at the international level, notably after accepting the return of the expelled civilian staff of the United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

MINURSO: Polisario urges Security Council to take action

SADR, a founding member of AU, its suspension cannot be requested

Algiers, July 21, 2016 (SPS) -  The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is a founding member of the African Union (AU) and its suspension from the organization cannot be requested, said Thursday in Algiers Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal.
In a statement to the press on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the Parliament's spring session, Sellal said that the request to expel the Sahrawi Republic was "nonsense" because "we must not forget that the SADR is a founding member of the pan-African organization."

President Ghali hails Algeria's unfailing support to Western Sahara cause

Polisario Front rejects EU-Morocco Agricultural Agreement in Sahrawi territories

AU Summit: African e-Passport launched from Kigali

Kigali, July 18, 2016 (SPS) – The African Union electronic passport (e-Passport) has been launched in the Rwandese capital Kigali on Sunday, during the 27th ordinary session of AU Heads of State and Government.
The AU e-Passport launch ceremony attended by African leaders.
The first group of beneficiaries are AU heads of State and Government, ministers of Foreign Affairs and permanent representatives of AU Member States.

Western Sahara: France supports UN process for just, lasting solution

Paris, July 18, 2016 (SPS) - France supports United Nations process for a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution" to Western Sahara conflict," said Monday the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"France will continue to support the UN-sponsored political process, aiming at finding a just, lasting and mutually acceptable solution" to Western Sahara conflict, said the spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry, Romain Nadal during his weekly press briefing on Friday.

African Union stresses support to Western Sahara people's self-determination

Kigali (Rwanda), July 18, 2016 (SPS) - The 27th ordinary session of African Union Heads of State and Government reiterated Sunday in Kigali, Rwanda, its unfailing support to Western Sahara people's right to self-determination.
"African Union reiterates its support to Saharawi people and their right to self-determination," AU Commission chairwoman Dlamini-Zuma said in an opening address at the African Union Summit.

Ould Khelifa reiterates Algeria's support to Western Sahara cause

Algiers, July 17, 2016 (SPS) - The speaker of Algerian People's National Assembly (lower house of parliament), Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa, reiterated Saturday Algeria's support to Western Sahara in international fora, being fully convinced that it is backing a just cause.
Ould Khelifa, at an audience granted to the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic's ambassador to Algiers Bechraya Hamoudi Sidina, expressed "Algeria's willingness to continue support for Western Sahara in international fora."

WSC demands UN SC to take constructive action to resolve Western Sahara conflict

The world lost a great Muslim champion for democracy, human rights and the rule of law, with the untimely death of Mohamed Abdelaziz of Western Sahara on May 31st of this year. As the democratically elected President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Abdelaziz labored his entire life to see justice prevail for the people of Western Sahara, the only colony in Africa yet to be decolonized.

First civilian staff of Minurso to return to Western Sahara

Washingtonm, July 14, 2016 (SPS) - The first staff of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) expelled by Morocco is to return to the occupied Sahrawi territories on Wednesday or Thursday, UN source told APS on Wednesday.
The first group consists of 16 employees of MINURSO who are currently in Las Palmas and are expected to return on Wednesday or on Thursday to the occupied Sahrawi territories to resume their mission.
