UN Security Council expresses its full support for Ban Ki-moon's visit to Western Sahara

Bir Lahlou(liberated territories of SADR), February 11,2016 (SPS) .- The United Nations Security Council voiced Wednesday its full support for the planned visit of the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to Western Sahara, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

At the initiative of Venezuela, that chairs the Security Council for the month of February, the Council addressed on Wednesday afternoon February 10, the question of Western Sahara and its latest developments.
 

Implementing international humanitarian law on Western Sahara’s issue, theme of conference in Geneva

Geneva, February 11, 2016 (SPS) .- The implementation of the international humanitarian law on the issue of Western Sahara, in the 8th edition of “wounded memory” devoted this year to the Sahrawi cause, is the theme of a conference held Tuesday, in Geneva, in the presence of the representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland Maima Abdessalam and several specialists in international law.

Bir Lahlou(liberated territories of SADR), February 11,2016 (SPS) .- The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz asked the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon not allow any official of his organization to participate in the next meeting of the Forum of Crans Montana in the occupied city of Dajla.

 

President Mohamed Abdelaziz recalled the responsibility of the UN in Western Sahara, a territory in the process of decolonization.

Paris,February 09, 2016 (SPS) - The organization UNESCO has expressed its rejection to the holding of Crans Montana Forum in the occupied city of Dajla in Western Sahara recalling that the territory is under the responsibility of the UN and is a question of decolonization.

 

WFDY reiterates its call for the decolonization in Western Sahara

Moscow, February 09, 2016 (SPS) -The General Council of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY) reiterated its support to the Saharawi people struggle for freedom and independence, calling on the UN to accelerate the decolonization of the last colony in Africa , Western Sahara.

 

 

In a statement closing its General Council held in Moscow, the Federation expressed solidarity with the struggle of young Saharawis against the Moroccan occupier for self-determination and independence.

 

NS Bureau reiterates cooperation with neighboring countries to confront security threats

Severe punishment against young Sahrawis by Moroccan court

El Aaiun (occupied territories), February 7, 2016 (SPS) The Moroccan court in the occupied city of El Aaiun on Friday sentenced four unemployed young Saharawi to six months in prison and a fine of 1000 DH, according to Sahrawi judicial sources.

 

The sentence was issued against Djedna Garfa, Raha Younes, Said Lbraigi et Ahmed Zawi.

Morocco exercises pressure on Saharawi journalists in occupied territories of Western Sahara (RSF)

Madrid, Feb 6, 2016 (SPS) Non-governmental organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) indicated in its annual report 2015 on freedom of expression, that Morocco continues to exert great pressure on Sahrawi journalists in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

The report, published recently, notes that the Moroccan authorities continue to practice pressure on journalists who try to publish independently on events in Western Sahara.

Norwegian students demonstrate in front of the Moroccan Embassy in Oslo to ask for a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

Oslo(Norway) January 05, 16 (SPS) .- Dozens of young Norwegian students demonstrated in front of the Moroccan Embassy in Oslo, demanding the organization of a referendum on self-determination in Western Sahara and to complete the decolonization of the last colony in Africa.



 

The demonstration was an occasion for many Norwegian youth organizations to express their intention to join the international campaign that demands the holding of the referendum in Western Sahara.

MEPs urge European Commission to “urgently” increase aid to Sahrawi refugees

Brussels (Belgium), February 04,2016 (SPS)  - Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) called out, Wednesday, the European Commission on the humanitarian situation of Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf camps, urging the executive of the Union to “urgently” increase its aid to meet the basic needs of these refugees.

 

The MEPs launched an urgent call to the European Union (EU) to grant emergency funds to Sahrawi refugees in Tindouf camps in order to respond to the flooding crisis that hit these camps in October 2015.
