Ban Ki-Moon’s visit, strong message to Morocco, says Sahrawi official

Smara(Sahrawi Refugee Camps), February 23, 2016 (SPS) -The Head of the Sahrawi delegation to negotiations with Morocco for the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara, Khatri Addouh hoped Monday, in Smara, that the upcoming visit of the United Nations’ Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, to the region, is a “strong message” to the Moroccan occupier, who continues to create obstacles for the efforts of the international community.

 

Sahara Marathon 16th edition kicks off today

El Aaiun (refugee camps), Feb 23, 2016 (SPS) - The 16th edition of Sahara Marathon, annual international sport demonstration, on Tuesday kicked off in the Saharawi refugee camps, with the participation of 500 Saharawi and international runners from 22 countries in the world, along with runners from Occupied Territories for the first time.

 

Saharawi political prisoners continue unlimited hunger strike in Tiznit prison

Messahel reiterates Algeria's constant position for just, lasting political solution

Algiers, Feb 22, 2016 (SPS) - Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel on Sunday has reiterated Algeria's constant position for a just and lasting political solution to Western Sahara conflict.

 

Messahel, who received United Nations Secretary General's Special Envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross, recalled "Algeria's constant position for a just and lasting solution that provides for the self-determination of the Sahrawi people," said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement.

 

German Bundestag denounces human rights violations in Western Sahara

The interpellations related to the recent forced deportation of 3 Danish Journalist from El Aaiun, the capital city of Western Sahara, who wants to investigate in the violations of human rights in the territory.

 

Moroccan association warns against health deterioration of Ali-Salem Tamek

Assa, February 21, 2016 (SPS) The local branch of the Moroccan Association of Human Rights (AMDH) in Assa warned against "risky" degradation of the health of Sahrawi former political prisoner and human right activist, Ali Salem Tamek, in press statement.

 

Saharawi defender Ali-Salem Tamek started on 6 February, a sit-in at the headquarters of the local branch of the AMDH followed by an unlimited hunger strike on February 9, to protest against attempts by the Moroccan regime to deprive him of his legitimate rights to pursue higher education.

 

EU-Morocco agreement on designation of origin of products: new slap in the face for Morocco

Brussels (Belgium), Feb 21, 2016 (SPS) - The decision of the European Union Committee on International Trade to postpone "all procedures relating to the agreement with the EU on the protection of geographical indications and designations of the origin of agricultural products, processed products, fish and fisheries products coming from the occupied Sahrawi territories," was a new slap in the face for Morocco.

The UN envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, had began a tour in the region to prepare for the visit of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, to the region in March. (SPS)

President of Republic offers condolences to his Egyptian counterpart on death of Boutros-Ghali

Bir-Lehlou (refugee camps), Feb 20, 2016 (SPS) The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, sent a letter of condolences to his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, following the death of former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

 

The Saharawi president expressed his deep condolences to his Egyptian counterpart, the family of the deceased and the Egyptian people.

 

UN SG Personal Envoy meets members of Sahrawi negotiating delegation
