Security cooperation among Maghreb countries enhanced, says Sahrawi government

Boumerdes (Algeria), August 13, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi government highlighted the need for increased security cooperation among Maghreb states in order to deal with security threats relating to Morocco’s export of drugs to countries in the region.

 

In a conference hosted Monday as part of the summer university of Sahrawi officials organised in Boumerdes, Algeria, the Secretary of state for information and Security Brahim Ahmed Mahmoud insisted on the need to increase cooperation between countries in the region to face security threats.”

 

Algeria seizes more than 95 tons of Moroccan cannabis resin in 2014 first six months

Algiers, August 12, 2014 (SPS) - More than 95 tons of cannabis resin were seized in the first six months of 2014, an increase of 25 tons of the amount seized during the same period  of 2013, the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction (ONLDT) told APS.

 

“In total, 95 592, 973 tons of cannabis resin were seized during the first six months of this year, against 70 202,043 kg during the same period in 2013,” said the Office’s interim CEO Mohamed Benhalla in an interview with APS.

Moroccan authorities expel Canadian lawyer from occupied territories

 El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), August 9, 2014 (SPS) - Moroccan authorities expelled Thursday a Canadian lawyer from UNICEF, from the occupied city of El Aaiun airport and prevented her from visiting the region to find out about the human rights situation in the occupied Western Sahara.

  

The Canadian lawyer was ill-treated by members of the Moroccan intelligence who forced her to return to the plane she had aboard towards the Moroccan city of Casablanca.

 

Moroccan gendarmes cause death of two Sahrawis and wounding of another

Occupied Territories,  August 9, 2014 (SPS) – Vehicles of Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie chased Friday night a Nissan car carrying three Sahrawis that crushed during the operation, causing the death of two of them and wounding the other in an area called Wadi Sh’baika in the surroundings of Abetih twon, according to media resource in the occupied territories.

 

The Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie patrol instead of providing first aid to the injured, they escaped leaving them bleeding until the two died and the third was in critical condition.  

 

Independent Saharawi state is prerequisite for Africa’s future development, says diplomat

Boumerdes (Algeria), Aug 8, 2014 (SPS) - The Chargé d’Affaires of the Zimbabwean Embassy in Algiers Mr. Kossam Mupezeni said that an independent and sovereign Saharawi state is a “prerequisite” for future development of the African continent, reaffirming his country’s support to the right of the Saharawi people to freedom and independence.


“Once independent and sovereign, Western Sahara could unleash the full potential for the benefit of Africa,” said Mr. Mupezeni, in an interview with SPS.

Maghreb Union building undermined by Morocco’s "strategy of tension"

Sahrawi government denounces Moroccan police act against AFASPA President

Birlehlu (Liberated Territories) August 8, 2014 (SPS) - The government of the Sahrawi Republic expressed a "strong" condemnation of the act carried out Wednesday against the President of French Association of Friendship and Solidarity with the Peoples of Africa (AFASPA), Michèle Decaster, by the Moroccan police which “expelled and interrogated” her, preventing her from entering the occupied city of El Aaiun, the capital of Western Sahara, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Information released Thursday.  

 

Dr. Barhou Souhila for inclusion of Saharawi natural resources into MINURSO mandate

Boumerdes (Algeria), Aug 7, 2014 (SPS) - Dr. Barhou Souhila, professor of political science at the Algerian University of Batna, has called for the need to include the protection of Saharawi natural resources within the prerogatives of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), adding that Morocco’s looting of the territory’s resources “reinforces its military apparatus inflicted on the Saharawi people.”

UN called to demand lifting of ban on visits to Western Sahara imposed by Morocco

Algiers, Aug 7, 2014 (SPS) - The government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) called on the United Nations (UN) and human rights organizations to demand from Morocco to lift the ban imposed on foreign delegations to visit the Saharawi occupied territories, said Thursday the SADR embassy in Algeria.

Saharawi Republic to open new embassy in Ecuador (communiqué)

Quito, Aug 7, 2014 (SPS) - The Saharawi Republic (SADR) will open an embassy in the Republic of Ecuador to boost the bilateral relations between the two countries, said a statement issued by Ecuador’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


In a meeting with the Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Mr. Ricardo Patiño on Wednesday, the Saharawi Minister Delegate for Latin America Mr. Hash Ahmed said that SADR is interested to open a diplomatic representation in Ecuador, an issue in which the Ecuadorian Government has offered all facilities.

AFASPA President stages sit-in at occupied El Aaiun airport

Moroccan forces expel foreign observers from Boujdour occupied city

Moroccan authorities expel Basque media delegation from Smara occupied city

Smara (Occupied Territories) August 6, 2014 (SPS) -  The Moroccan authorities expelled Wednesday a three journalists from the Basque region, Spain, from the occupied city of Smara, who were on a visit to find out the situation in the city under siege, according to the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

The source indicated that the Basque media delegation was heading to the occupied city of El Aaiun, when it was intercepted by a Moroccan police patrol and expelled it to the Moroccan city of Agadir.

Boumerdas, August, 05, 2014 (SPS)- The Saharawi activist of human rights Salha Boutengiza said Tuesday morning that the Saharawi people in the occupied territories of Western Sahara and southern Morocco are adhered to the right to self-determination and independence, calling for the international community to work in order to finish the occupation from Western Sahara.

Boumerdes (Algeria), Aug 5, 2014 (SPS) - Work of the 5th edition of the Summer University of Cadres of the Frente Polisario and Saharawi Republic (SADR), held on the current August 3-23 in Boumerdes, continues for the 3rd consecutive day by presenting a lecture on the peaceful resistance in Western Sahara by the Saharawi activist Bachir Ismaeli.


The lecture was supervised by the Minister of Occupied Territories and Diaspora Mr. Mohamed El-Ouali Akeik, activist Bachir Ismaeli, Dr. Omar Sadug and Dr. Salah Saoud.
