UJSARIO 8th Congress: at least 1000 participants confirmed

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Dec 24, 2013 (SPS) - “At least 1000 participants, of which 200 foreign participants and 787 Saharawi delegates, will take part at the 8th congress of UJSARIO,” Mr. Mousa Selma, Secretary General of the Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO) Mr. Mousa Selma told SPS.


Several festivities will be organized as from next Saturday to conclude the one-year long celebrations of Polisario Front’s 40th Anniversary, said Mr. Mousa Selma.

President of Republic receives French lawyers

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Dec 24, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz received Monday a French delegation of two renowned lawyers, at the end of a working visit to the Saharawi Refugee Camps.


The two French lawyers are Mr. Gilles Perrault and Mr. Nouraddin Chems.


The meeting focused on the best ways to thwart Morocco from signing further agreements with the European Union, which include the territories of Western Sahara.

China supports resolving Western Sahara issue through UN resolutions

ALGIERS, December 23, 2013 (SPS)Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi asserted Saturday in Algiers that his country is in favour of resolving the issue of Western Sahara according to the United Nations resolutions, expressing its readiness to play a constructive role in this context.

EU has "ambivalent" position towards Saharawi question

ALGIERS, December 23, 2013 (SPS)  - The European Union (EU) adopted an"ambivalent" position towards the Saharawi question, depending on the economic interests of "some" of its members, President of the Union of Saharawi Jurists Aba Al-Salek Haissan said Saturday.

 

POLISARIO Front urges EU to reconsider Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Morocco

London, December 22, 2013 (SPS) - Representative of POLISARIO Front to UK, Mohamed Limam Mohamed Ali, called Thursday on the European Union to reconsider the EU-Morocco Fisheries Partnership Agreement (FPA), in a letter to  Member of the European Parliament, Charles Tannock, relating to the recent approval by the European Parliament of the new Protocol.

 

AWSA protests against refusal of Australian importer to stop pillage of Sahrawi phosphate

Melbourne (Australia), December 22, 2013 (SPS) - Australia Western Sahara Association (AWSA) and the Australian Unions for Western Sahara both spoke at the meeting on Thursday of Incitec Pivot, Australian importer of phosphate from Western Sahara, and staged a protest outside, handing leaflets to the shareholders arriving for the meeting.

Trial of 6 Saharawi prisoners postponed to March 12th

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Dec 20, 2013 (SPS) - The Moroccan Court of Appeal postponed Wednesday the trial of six Saharawi political prisoners to 12th March 2014, according to a media source.


The six detainees are Mohamed Ali Saadi, Yousef Bouzeid, Mohamed Karnit, Yasin Sidati, Aziz Hramach and Al-Husein Abbah.


They were arrested after their participation at peaceful demonstrations organized on May 2013 in occupied El Aaiun to demand self-determination and independence of the Saharawis people.

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Dec 20, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi masses in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, organized Thursday peaceful rallies and protests in the streets of Sidi Mohamed Dadach and Skeikimat, said a Saharawi rights source.


The demonstrators raised Polisario Front’s flags, and chanted a number of slogans calling for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence.

Ghana renews "strong support" to self-determination of Saharawi people

Accra, Dec 20, 2013 (SPS) - The Republic of Ghana reaffirmed Thursday its "strong support" to the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, reported a statement issued by SADR embassy in Accra.


In a response letter to the declaration of protest against Moroccan regime, signed by more than 200 Ghanaians, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana stated that Ghana "has always supported the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination."

SADR takes part at AU conference of ministers for mineral resources development

Maputo, Dec 20, 2013 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation, led by the Ambassador in Mozambique Mr. Wadadi Cheick Ahmed Lheiba, took part at the 3rd ordinary session of the African Union Conference of Ministers Responsible for Mineral Resources Development, held in the Mozambican capital from 16th to 17 December, informed SADR embassy in Maputo.

WGAD assesses Moroccan human rights abuses in Black Prison

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Dec 19, 2013 (SPS) - The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (WGAD) met last Monday with the two Saharawi political prisoners, Mahjub Awold Shichk and Kamal Trayah, incarcerated in Black Jail, reported the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).


During the meeting, Saharawi prisoners informed the UN Working Group about the bad conditions experienced by the rest of the Saharawi political prisoners, calling on the UN to create a UN human rights monitoring mechanism in Western Sahara.

Mozambique renews support to Saharawis’ struggle for freedom and independence

Maputo, Dec 18, 2013 (SPS ) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique Mr. Oldemiro Balói has reiterated his country’s support to the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, during a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Wadadi Chej Ahmed, informed SADR embassy in Maputo.


Head of Mozambican diplomacy said that his country follows on a daily basis the struggle of the Saharawi people, adding that Mozambique support this struggle within the UN and AU.

Western Sahara: France's position expressed in Algiers, "positive," says Brahim Ghali

Algiers, Dec 18, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi Ambassador to Algiers Brahim Ghali dubbed "positive" France's position on the settlement of the Western Sahara conflict expressed in Algeria-France joint statement issued Tuesday at the end of the three-day official visit of French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault to Algeria.
 

"We consider positive the position on Western Sahara expressed by France in a joint statement signed by Algerian and French Prime ministers," Ghali told APS.
 

Morocco arrests Saharawi human rights activist in Tiznit

Tiznit (Morocco) - Moroccan occupation authorities arrested Monday the Saharawi human rights activist and former political prisoner, Abderrahman Bugarfa, according to sources in the occupied territories.


According to some sources, Abderrahman Bugarfa was arrested while he was visiting his son, Ayub Bugarfa, in Tiznit prison, Morocco.


Abderrahman Bugarfa was transferred to police station in the city for unknown reasons.
