Timor-Leste supports direct negotiations between Frente POLISARIO and Morocco

New York, Oct 13, 2012 (SPS) - Timor-Leste has expressed support to the direct negotiations between the Frente POLISARIO and Morocco under the auspices of the United Nations, voicing support to the right of Saharawi people to self-determination, during meeting of the UN Fourth Committee on Friday.

Algeria expresses “unshakeable solidarity” with Western Sahara

New York, Oct 13, 2012 (SPS) - Algeria has expressed “unshakeable solidarity” those peoples and nations subjected to colonial domination in the remaining 16 Non-Self-Governing Territories, including Western Sahara, the last remaining colony in Africa.


Addressing the UN Fourth Committee on Friday, Algerian Permanent Representative to the UN Mourad BENMEHIDI said that Algeria “could not stand silently by while colonialism persisted, and the right of self-determination was slighted.”

Lesotho: history of Africa would not be complete, until SADR was free from colonial hegemony

New York, Oct 13, 2012 (SPS) - “The history of Africa would not be complete, until the Saharawi Arab Republic was free from colonial hegemony,” stated Monday Mr. Mafiroane MOTANYANE, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Lesotho to the United Nations, before the UN Special Committee on Decolonization.


Mr. Motanyane said that the dream to completely eradicate colonialism continued to elude the international community, regretting on the fact that not much progress had been made.

South Africa: any proposal to Saharawi people should be placed at ballot box

New York, Oct 13, 2012 (SPS) - South Africa has pointed out that any proposal to the conflict of Western Sahara “should be placed at the ballot box”, which is the only accurate assessment of desires of the Saharawi people, criticizing the current attempts, by Morocco and some in the Security Council, to impose an option of autonomy in Western Sahara.

Saharawi people commemorate 37th anniversary of National Unity

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), Oct 13, 2012 (SPS) - Saharawi people commemorated Friday, 12 October, the 37th anniversary of the Declaration of National Unity which coincides with the 2nd anniversary of Gdeim izik epic.


Several festivities and activities in the Saharawi refugee camps, occupied territories of Western Sahara and Diaspora were held to commemorate the event.

Nigeria will continue advocate for independent Western Sahara

New York, Oct 12, 2012 (SPS) - Deputy Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations, Usman Sarki, said on Thursday that Nigeria will continue to advocate for full independence of Saharawi Republic in accordance with the wishes of the Saharawi people and the tenets of the international law.

 

Addressing the UN Fourth committee, Usman Sarki regretted that little progress has been fulfilled towards decolonization of Western Sahara since the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution 34/37 of 1979.

 

Zambia calls for implementation of UN resolutions on Western Sahara

Namibia reiterates unwavering support and solidarity with Saharawi people

New York, Oct 12 (SPS) - Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to UN, Jerobeam Shaanika, Has reaffirmed on Thursday his country’s "unwavarying support and solidarity" with the plight of Saharawi people and their right to self-determination and independence .

 

Addressing the United Nations Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly ( the Special Political and Decolonization Committee), Mr. Jerobeam Shaanika expressed concern that “the question of Western Sahara remains unresolved after so many years”.

 

France urged to facilitate expansion of MINORSO mandate

Spanish Government reiterates its support for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination

Madrid, Oct 11, 2012 (SPS) - The Spanish Government has reiterated its support for the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and continue his defense of human rights in Western Sahara, the Spanish News Agency  EFE reported roday.

 

The Spanish Foreign Minister said that the Spanish government calls for a political solution, just, lasting and mutually acceptable to provide for self-determination of the people of the Sahara in the context of the principles and UN resolutions, according to EFE.

Head of UN peacekeeping visits mission in Western Sahara

New York, Oct 10, 2012 (SPS) – The United Nations peacekeeping chief arrived Wednesday in Laayoune to visit the MINORSO  in Western Sahara, following which he will hold talks with both parties to the conflict; the Polisario Front and Morocco, said the  UN News Centere.

 

The visit by Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Hervé Ladsous is the first by the head of UN peacekeeping to the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) in 14 years, the source indicated.

 

SADR attends Uganda's 50th Independence Day Celebrations

Kampala, Oct 10, 2012 (SPS) - Saharawi delegation led by Minister of State for African Affairs, Special Envoy of the President of the Republic, Hamdi Abiha, took part  at the ceremonies celebrating the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Uganda, according to a source of  SADR embassy in Kampala.

 

Special Envoy of the President was received by President Yoweri Museveni. He conveyed  message of congratulations from President of Republic Mohamed Abdelaziz to President Museveni on the occasion of Uganda's 50th Independence Day.
