Namibia reiterates unwavering support and solidarity with Saharawi people

New York, Oct 12 (SPS) - Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to UN, Jerobeam Shaanika, Has reaffirmed on Thursday his country’s "unwavarying support and solidarity" with the plight of Saharawi people and their right to self-determination and independence .

 

Addressing the United Nations Fourth Committee of the UN General Assembly ( the Special Political and Decolonization Committee), Mr. Jerobeam Shaanika expressed concern that “the question of Western Sahara remains unresolved after so many years”.

 

He encouraged the parties to the conflict “to redouble their efforts and speed up the negotiations process that would eventually lead to the holding of a free and fair referendum in Western Sahara as provided for by the relevant United Nations resolutions”.

 

“I would like to reiterate Namibia’s unwavering support and solidarity with the people of Western Sahara, Palestine and all those who are not yet free” said Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to UN.

 

 “Just like any other nation, the people of Western Sahara are entitled to the right to determine their own destiny “ he added.

 

Mr. Shaanika said “Namibia will continue keep faith with the people of Western Sahara and Palestine who are still yearning to be free and exercise their rights to self-determination “.

 

 “The United Nations cannot shut the door of freedom and those who are yearning to be free and exercise the same right enjoyed by every member of this family of sovereign nations” Deputy Permanent Representative of Namibia to UN concluded. (SPS)
