Presidential election in Mauritania: Victory of Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz confirmed

NOUAKCHOTT (Mauritania), June 30, 2014 (SPS) - The overwhelming victory of President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz in Mauritania's presidential election on June 21 has been confirmed by the Constitutional Council.

 

"Candidate Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was elected president of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania in the first round of the presidential poll, on 21 June 2014, with an overwhelming majority of the cast ballot," the council's president, Sgheyir Ould M'barek, said at an official ceremony.

 

Mexican party expresses support for just cause of Saharawi people

Mexico, June 30, 2014 (SPS) The President of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD) in Mexico, Jesus Zambrano , affirmed on Sunday the need to support the just cause and the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination, during a meeting with a Saharawi delegation at the party headquarters in Mexico City.

 

The members of the party have expressed their commitment to defend the Sahrawi just cause and raise awareness about the suffering of the Saharawi people, especially in the field of human rights.

 

Polisario Front warns against "illegal" activities of some companies in Western Sahara

BIR LAHLOU (LIBERATED TERRITORIES) , June 30, 2014 (SPS) -Saharawi President, Mohamed Abdelaziz warned against "illegal" activities of certain foreign companies conducting exploration and drilling of oil and gas off the coast of Western Sahara, calling the Secretary General of the UN to intervene to stop these acts.

 

President Abdelaziz hails AU designation of special envoy to Western Sahara

Algiers, June 29, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi President Mohamed Abdelaziz hailed the designation, by the African Union (AU), of the former Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano, special envoy to Western Sahara.

 

Sahrawi President expressed, in a speech during a debate on the AU Peace and Security Council report, his country’s consideration for the “permanent” follow-up of Western Sahara issue by AU peace and security council and commission.

Malabo, June 28, 2014 (SPS) - The African Union (AU) has appointed Mr. Joaquim Chissano, former president of Mozambique, as a special envoy for Western Sahara, stated the report of AU Peace and Security Council, submitted to the 23rd Assembly of the Union.


The report, approved by the summit of heads of state and government, revealed that Mr. Chissano has already held consultations with the permanent members of the Security Council and UN officials in Madrid, Paris, London, Washington and New York.

President of Republic holds talks with AU African heads of state and government

Smara (refugee camps), June 25, 2014 (SPS) - Minister of Defense Mr. Mohamed Lamine El Bouhali reiterated Wednesday the "commitment" of the Saharawi Popular Liberation Army to continuing the struggle for the recovery of sovereignty over the entire national territory.


In a speech on the occasion of the end of the training year in Chahid El Ouali military school, the Saharawi Minister of Defence stressed that the Saharawi army "is determined to pursue its legitimate struggle to recover freedom and independence."

Malabo, June 25, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz arrived moments ago in the capital of Equatorial Guinea, Malabo, to take part at the 23rd ordinary summit of heads of state and government of the African Union, to kick off Thursday.


President Mohamed Abdelaziz was received at Malabo International Airport by Prime Minister of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea H.E. Mr. Vicente Ehate Tomi, in addition to some officials in the government of this country.

Lord John Stevens asked the UK government what efforts they are making in respect of Morocco´s international human rights obligations in regard to the citizens of Western Sahara; and what steps they have taken in respect of neutralising the Moroccan wall and associated weaponry.
