Saharawi self-determination: UN Council urged to issue binding resolutions

Algiers, March 4, 2014 (SPS) - The UN Security Council should promulgate "pertinent and binding" resolutions about Saharawi people's right to self-determination," instead of resorting to prevarication," Boudjemaa Souileh, a teacher of International Law and a permanent member of the Arab Lawyers Council, said Monday in Algiers.

Stability and security in Africa need independent Saharawi state, says Nigerian ambassador

Smara (refugee camps), March 4, 2014 (SPS) - Nigeria’s ambassador in Algiers Mr. Haruna Ginsau has declared Tuesday from the Saharawi refugee camps that the security and stability in the African continent "urgently need" an independent Saharawi state.


In a reception in honour of the Nigerian delegation which arrived today in the Saharawi Republic (SADR), the Nigerian diplomat indicated that an independent Saharawi state is an urgent need for establishing security and stability in Africa.

Nigerian ministerial delegation visits Saharawi Republic

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), March 4, 2014 (SPS) - A Nigerian ministerial delegation, led by the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory Ms. Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, arrived Tuesday’s morning in the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of a solidarity visit to the Saharawi Republic (SADR).


The delegation is composed of a number of Nigerian President’s advisors for woman affairs, ambassador in Algiers, prominent female personalities, and some members of the Nigerian Relief Agency.

IUSY 30th Conference reiterates Saharawi people right to self-determination

Copenhagen (Denmark) March 3, 2014 (SPS) -  The 30th Conference of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), concluded Sunday in Copenhagen, Denmark, adopted a motion reaffirming  the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and respect of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.

 

The Congress  reelected Sahrawi Youth Union vice-president. The new leadership pledged to carry on the visit the IUSY had undertaken to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and Sahrawi refugee camps.

Algerian MFA receives UN Secretary-General Personal Envoy for Western Sahara

Algiers, March 3, 2014 (SPS) - Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ramtane Lamamra received Sunday in Algiers Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara Mr. Christopher Ross.

 

Mr. Ross is touring the region to prepare for a meeting between the Polisario Front and Morocco to revive the negotiations for the decolonization in Western Sahara.

 

The UN envoy toured the region in late January 2014. He is expected to start  a visit Tuesday in Sahrawi refugee camps, according to a Sahrawi source. (SPS)

UK continues to support self-determination of Saharawi people

Oran (Algeria), March 2, 2014 (SPS) - British ambassador to Algeria, Martyn Roper, reaffirmed Sunday in Oran, UK support to self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

 

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of a meeting in Oran on bilateral partnership program for Algerian young developers, Roper stated that "the UK has a clear position on this issue and we support the self-determination of the Sahrawi people." (SPS)

Nigerian delegation on visit to Sahrawi refugee camps

Abuja (Nigeria), March 2, 2014 (SPS) - A high-level Nigerian delegation visits Tuesday the Sahrawi refugee camps to deliver aid donation for Sahrawi women, according to the Sahrawi embassy in Abuja.
 
The Sahrawi ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Abbi Bashir Bushraya, indicated in a statement to SPS that the ministrial delegation will deliver humanitarian aid donated by the First Lady, Mrs.

France urged to change stance on Western Sahara

Paris (France), March 1, 2014 (SPS) - Dozens of Sahrawis and representatives of French associations support Sahrawi people staged a rally Thursday in Paris, near the Quai d’Orsay, a symbolic place of French diplomacy, to call on France to change its position over Western Sahara conflict and to support Sahrawi people’s self-determination.

 

The protestors called the French government to exhort pressure on Moroccan authorities to bring it to put an end to its repressive policy against Western Sahara people and not to ignore their legitimate rights

 

Washington criticizes Morocco's violations of Saharawi people's human rights

Washington (United States) , March 1, 2014 (SPS) - The United States has once again criticized Morocco's violation of Saharawi people' human rights in the occupied Saharawi territories, dubbing them "serious problems" which, in addition to physical and verbal abuse, includes repressive methods to quell dissent and self-determination demands by pro-independence associations.
