The Sahrawi Republic participates in the XIX Meeting of the Forum of Sao Paulo

Sao Paulo (Brazil), July 31,2013 (SPS) - The general secretary of the National Union of Saharawi Women, Fatma Mehdi participates in the XIX Edition of the Sao Paulo Forum, which started on Monday, July 29, 2013, with the goal of making a comprehensive diagnosis of the international situation and to adopt a regional action plan, with the central purpose, deepening changes and accelerating integration.

 

Sahrawi flags displayed in occupied city of Laiun

Laiun (Occupied Sahrawi capital)- Sahrawi activists launched in Laiun city a campaign for the display of Sahrawi flags while chanting "long live the Sahrawi people and Polisario Front." according to a source from the Saharawi Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad

The same source said that this new campaign is part of the "actions of the Intifada militants against the Moroccan occupying forces."

Government of Murcia organizes humanitarian aid caravan for Saharawi refugee camps

Murcia (Spain), July 29, 2013 (SPS) - The Regional Government of Murcia, Spain, has donated some trucks and buses to help transport humanitarian aid for the Saharawi refugees, in an effort to alleviate the suffering and crisis has been plaguing these refugees since four decades, informed a source from the Polisario Representation in Murcia.


The caravan is organized in collaboration with solidarity movement, University, secondary schools and other institutions in Murcia.

Peaceful rally in Tan-Tan to demand self-determination of Saharawi people

Tan-Tan (south Morocco), July 29, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi masses organized Saturday a massive peaceful rally in Al-Watia beach, Tan-Tan, demanding the right of the Saharawi people to self-determination and independence, according to a source of the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Diaspora.


According to the source, the rally roamed some neighborhoods and streets of the aforementioned beach, 25 Kilometers far from the city of Tan-Tan.

Municipality of Pozuelo donates 2.500 books to Bir Lehlou library

Pozuelo de Alarcòn (Madrid), July 29, 2013 (SPS) - The Municipality of Pozuelo has donated a total of 2.500 books to the library of Bir Lahlou Municipality, Saharawi refugee camps, to encourage reading and expand the knowledge of children and young Saharawis.


Novels, poems and drama for children and adults in Spanish, Arabic and both languages are part of the catalog of the library that Municipality has built in Bir Lahlou, according to media of the region.

Child immunization coverage in Saharawi refugee camps is 70%, says UNICEF

Algiers, July 28, 2013 (SPS) - The immunization coverage of children in Sahrawi refugee camps increased from 43% up to 70% between 2009 and 2012, said Sunday the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).


The improvement of social services program in the Sahrawi refugee camps (2012-2014), developed by UNICEF, shows that the coverage of the Saharawi refugee children increased from 43% in late 2009 to 70% at the end of 2012, said the UNICEF representative in Algiers, Thomas Davin, in an interview with the Algerian Press Service (APS).

Adala UK condemns new EU-Morocco fishing treaty

Washington, July 27, 2013 (SPS) - Western Sahara issue was at the heart of a debate of representatives from several U.S. media, organized by the foundation “International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF)” in Washington.


Under the theme of “rights, resources and refugees: stories about the impasse of Western Sahara issue,’’ the meeting has been particularly run by journalists who have made reports in Western Sahara in 2012 and 2013. They explained to the participants that this is Africa’s last colony.

SADR takes part at AU Commission Conference of Sport Ministers in Abidjan

Abidjan, July 27, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi Republic (SADR) took part at the 5th Session of the AU Commission Conference of Ministers of Sport (CAMS5), convened in Abidjan, capital of Cote D’ Ivoire , on 22-26 July 2013 under the theme “harnessing the power of sport to contribute to the broader government development agenda”.


SADR was represented at the conference by Mr. Abbi Bachraya Bachir, Ambassador in Nigeria.

President Mohamed Abdelaziz sends condolence letter to President of Galicia Government

Bir Lehlou (liberated territories), July 26, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Frente Polisario Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has sent Thursday a letter of condolences to the President of the Government of Galicia Mr. Alberto Nuñez Feijoo following the derailment of a train in Santiago de Compostela.


The Saharawi president expressed, on behalf of the Saharawi people and government, solidarity with the generous Galician people on these sad moments.

Bir Lahlou (liberated territories),July 25,2013(SPS)- the President of Republic, Mohamed Abdelaziz, Secretary-General of the POLISARIO Front, has called today, Thursday, on the Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon to intervene with Morocco to end their "flagrant violations of human rights and the immediate repeal of the decision of expulsion of Sahrawi athlete Salah Edin Ameidan, allowing him to visit his country," Western Sahara.

 

Formation of U.S.A solidarity group with Sahrawi People

Washington,July25,2013(SPS)- On July 23, 2013, several American Figures met in New York City for the establishment of a U.S group in solidarity with the Saharawi people named “United States Citizens for Western Sahara” during  a gala dinner attended by Mr. Mohammed Beissat, member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario front  and its Representative in Washington and, members of the Sahrawi community in New York, according to a press release by USCWS

 

The meeting approved the USCW’s work program and elected the executive office of the group.

Vice-President of Government of Murcia confirms support for struggle of Saharawi people

Murcia (Spain), July 24, 2013 (SPS) The Vice-President of the Government of the Region of Murcia, Manuel Campos Sanchez, confirmed Tuesday Murcia’s support  for the struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, during a meeting with the representative of the Polisario Front in Murcia, Mohamed Labat.

 

Manuel Campos Sanchez confirmed the commitment of Murcia to work to alleviate the suffering of the Sahrawi refugees, as well as its support for the program "Holidays in peace."

UNHCR donates USD300,000 in food aid to Saharawi refugees

ALGIERS, July23,2013(SPS) - United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has donated USD300,000 in food aid to Saharawi refugees for the holy month of Ramadan, the UN agency announced Tuesday.

 

"As every year, the UNHCR contributes to improving food aid to Saharawi refugees during the month of Ramadan, with supplies of vegetables and fresh fruits, reaching 437 tonnes of potatoe and 125 tonnes of onion, worth USD300,000," the representative of the UNHCR in Algiers, Ralf H. W. Gruenert, said.
