SADR takes part at AU Commission Conference of Sport Ministers in Abidjan

Abidjan, July 27, 2013 (SPS) - Saharawi Republic (SADR) took part at the 5th Session of the AU Commission Conference of Ministers of Sport (CAMS5), convened in Abidjan, capital of Cote D’ Ivoire , on 22-26 July 2013 under the theme “harnessing the power of sport to contribute to the broader government development agenda”.


SADR was represented at the conference by Mr. Abbi Bachraya Bachir, Ambassador in Nigeria.


The conference was initiated by intensive meetings by the experts, and in-depth lectures on the partnership with international sport organizations.


The meeting examined the reports and adopted the outstanding decisions with respect to the restructuring of African sports bodies in line with the decisions taken at the level of the African Union summit in 2005.


Approved the experts’ report, the ministerial meeting heard written interventions by some regional sport organizations and member states on the outcome of African participation in 2012 Olympic Games in London, the preparations for the international symposium on anti-Doping in Sport, to be held in South Africa on November 2013, as well as the completed preparations for the All-Africa Games in Brazzaville in 2015 and African Youth Games, scheduled for 2014 in Botswana.


The meeting ratified the new sport structure in Africa and the Abidjan Declaration.


The Saharawi Ambassador held, on the sidelines of the conference, bilateral meetings with several ministerial delegations present at the meeting. (SPS)
