Timorese Parliament votes on motion renewing support to Saharawi cause

Dili, May 26, 2013 (SPS) - The Parliament of Timor-Leste has unanimously voted on a motion on Western Sahara, in which it reiterated East Timor’s support to the Saharawi cause.


The motion, a copy of it reached Sunday SPS, called on the government of Timor-Leste to translate its positive position vis-à-vis the Saharawi cause at international podiums, since East Timor is a member of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Zimbabwe stresses need to complete decolonization process in SADR

Harare, May 26, 2013 (SPS) - The Vice -President of Zimbabwe, Hon J.T.R. Mujuru has stressed, in a ceremony organized Saturday in Zimbabwean capital to mark OAU 50-year anniversary, the need to completed the decolonization process in the Saharawi Republic (SADR).


At this event, which was organized by Zimbabwean authorities and attended by African and world diplomatic corps, Ms. Mujuru emphasized the need to complete the decolonization of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic.

Algerian Muslim Scholars Association calls for need to support Saharawi people

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 26, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars Mr. Abdul Razak Qasum has stressed the need to support the Saharawi people in their just struggle for freedom, during a meeting on Saturday with the Saharawi Prime Minister, at the end of a 2-day visit he made along with a delegation of the Association to the Saharawi refugee camps.

President Mohamed Abdelaziz calls on AU to complete the liberation of occupied Western Sahara

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Frente POLISARIO Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz has called on the African Union to act in favour of completing the liberation of the occupied parts of Western Sahara, in a speech delivered Saturday at the Summit of OAU-AU 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration, taking place in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

AU Summit: draft decision on Western Sahara submitted to African leaders for adoption

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The Executive Council of the African Union (AU) adopted Friday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis-Ababa, 16 draft decisions, including that of Western Sahara, to be submitted to the 21st Summit of the Union Heads of State and Government (26- 27 May) for approval.


The concerned draft decision is about the first report of AU Commission Chairperson on Western Sahara situation.

Representative of Saharawi President attends Mr. Rafael Correa’s inauguration

Quito (Ecuador), May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister Delegate for Latin America Mr. Hash Ahmed has represented the President of the Republic Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz at the inauguration ceremony of the President of Ecuador Mr. Rafael Correa, took place Friday in the presence of 90 delegation, 14 of which are heads of state.


The Saharawi minister held talks with several heads of foreign delegations attending the event.


He, therefore, received by the highest authorities of Ecuador.

Namibia urges AU and UN to adequately address the plight of Saharawi people

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Namibia Ms. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said that her country “fully supports the urgent need for the African Union (AU) and the United Nations to adequately address the plight of the people of Western Sahara particularly those living in refugee camps,” reaffirming Namibia’s active solidarity with the Sahrawi people under the leadership of SADR, as quoted by New Era Newspaper.

Activist Aminatou Haidar, AU guest of honor at OAU 50th Anniversary

Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - The Saharawi activist Ms. Aminatou Haidar, guest of honor of the African Union at the OAU Golden Jubilee, has arrived in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, along with many of the world’s dignitaries, including former heads of state and Nobel Peace Prize laureates, human rights activists.


According to observers, this invitation is homage to the sacrifices made by Aminatou Haidar to embody the will of her people for freedom and live in dignity.

African Union Commission invites Christopher Ross

AU Executive Council approves declaration affirming Saharawi people’s self-determination and sovereignty

Boujdour (occupied territories), May24, 2013 (SPS) - The intifada activists in Boujdour organized peaceful sit-ins on Thursday to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the establishment of the POLISARI front and the outbreak of armed struggle, as well as the start of the Intifada (uprising) for independence

 

 

The demonstrators chanted the various national hairs calling for independence and the evacuation of the occupation, as well as release of all Saharawi political prisoners.

Harare (Zimbabwe), May 24, 2013 (SPS) - ZANU-PF National Chairman Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has blasted some Western countries for their double standards by not condemning Morocco’s occupation of Saharawi but quick attack other countries, reported wednesday the Zimbabwean Widespread newspaper “The Herald”

 

Cde Khaya Moyo made the remarks when Saharawi Republic Ambassador Mr. Saleh Mohamed Cheij, paid a courtesy call on him at the ZANU-PF headquarters tuesday.

Amnesty report condemns “excessive force” in Western Sahara

London, May 23, 2013 (SPS)- Amnesty International condemned today the “excessive force” Morocco uses in the occupied territories of Western Sahara. “The Moroccan authorities continued to target Sahrawi human rights defenders and advocates of self-determination for Western Sahara, and used excessive force to quell or prevent demonstrations in Western Sahara,” Amnesty International say in their 2013 Annual Report that was published today.
