Addis Ababa, May 25, 2013 (SPS) - Western Sahara decolonization will be the crowning victory of Africans against colonialism and apartheid, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal said Saturday in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
"The great victories in this historic battle waiting to be crowned by the completion of Africa decolonization, through the exercise by Western Sahara people, of their inalienable right to self-determination," said the Prime Minister of Algeria Mr. Abdelmalek Sellal at a summit meeting on the" Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance "that brought together Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
Sellal, representing the President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika, at AU ordinary summit, scheduled for Sunday and Monday, noted that this event is an opportunity to "renew our tribute to the founding fathers of the OAU, who gave shape and substance to the Pan-Africanist ideal proclaimed early past century by the worthy children of Africa and its diaspora."
"This ideal was a great hope and a reference that fed the process of renaissance driven by African peoples’ strength and struggles against colonialism and apartheid," he argued.
For Sellal, the 50th anniversary of Africa is "doubly significant" for Algeria because it "coincides with the celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of independence."
"Algeria has always inspired by Africa during its long struggle to regain independence," he said, adding that "the revolution was part of the broader framework of the total liberation of our continent." (SPS)
