Polisario Front raises issue of allowing UNHCR free access to occupied Western Sahara

Geneva (Switzerland), Sept 22, 2012 (SPS) - The issue of allowing the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) free access to the territories occupied of Western Sahara has been raised by the Saharawi delegation during the 3rd meeting of evaluation of Confidence-Building Measures (CBM) program, held Wednesday in Geneva.
 

Zimbabwe backs struggle of Saharawi people for freedom and independence (Vice-President)

Harare, Sept 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Vice-President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Joyce Mujuru, has confirmed his country’s firm position to support the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people for liberation of Western Sahara from Moroccan occupation, during a reception hosted Friday on honor of the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Deich Mohamed Saleh, according to a statement of the Saharawi embassy in Harare.

Belize for solution respecting self-determination of Saharawi people

Belmopán (Belize), Sept 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belize, Mr. Wilfred Peter Elrington, has reaffirmed his country’s support to a solution respecting the self-determination of the Saharawi people to freely choose their destiny, in a meeting with SADR ambassador to Nicaragua Mr. Telleb Hanan Suleiman as part of the celebrations of the National Day of Belize, sources from the Saharawi Embassy in Nicaragua reported.

Ghana reiterates support to UN efforts in Western Sahara

Accra, Sept 21, 2012 (SPS) - The Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Ghana, Mr. Chris Kpodo, has reiterated the support of his country to efforts of the United Nations for reaching a solution to the conflict of Western Sahara on the basis of the respect to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, in a meeting with the Saharawi Ambassador Mr. Mahjub Sidi held Thursday at Ghana’s Foreign Ministry.

Polisario Front and Morocco held the third meeting of evaluation of Confidence building programme

Geneva, Spt 20, 2012 (SPS). - The third meeting to evaluate confidence-building programme between the Polisario Front and Morocco was held Wednesday in Geneva, in the presence of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, and with the participation of delegations from both sides in the conflict and the two observer countries, Algeria and Mauritania, as well as a delegation from the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara, MINURSO.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina supports right of Saharawi people to self-determination

Sarajevo,  Spt 20, 2012 (SPS) - The head of the Department of Asia and Africa in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ljubo Grkovic has expressed his country's support for a peaceful resolution to the Western Sahara conflict enabling the Saharawi people of their right to self-determination, during a meeting with the representative of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Malainin Bagada.

 

President of Republic asserts UN responsibility to end dramatic situation of human rights in Western Sahara

Bir Lehlu(liberated territories) , Spt 20, 2012 (SPS). - The President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz, has asserted the responsibility of the international community to end the dramatic situation of human rights in Western Sahara, in letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki moon.

 

The President of the Republic condemned in his letter the Moroccan ignorance to the UN presence in the territory and the tight security siege imposed on the Saharawis civilians.

 

Saharawi organizations calls on UN to protect human rights in Western Sahara

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 19, 2012 (SPS) -The President of Trade Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers and the Coordination of Sahrawi Gdim Izik, Sidamed  Edia has  called for the establishment of an international mechanism for the protection of human rights in Western Sahara, during a meeting held today with the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Méndez.

 

The meeting focused on the situation of human rights in Western Sahara and the rights of workers since era the Spanish colonialism.

 

Days of solidarity with Sahrawi cause in Sweden

Fallon (Sweden), Sept 19, 2012 (SPS) -Several Swedish associations and Writers organized days of solidarity with the Saharawi cause from 15th to 17th September in Fallon , according to a statement of  the Polisario Front representation in Sweden.

 

The Swedish associations, including the African group, the UN Association of the City of Fallon, the Group of Friends of the Saharawi people in Sweden have organized many cultural, political and academic events in favor of the Saharawi question.

 

Mendez hears testimonies on torture of Saharawi political prisoners

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 19, 2012 (SPS) - United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, Mr. Juan Méndez has listened to testimony about the torture methods committed by Moroccan authorities of occupation against the Saharawi political prisoners in its jails.

 

The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture inspected the cruel conditions of the Saharawi political prisoners. He also stopped on the case of Saharawi political prisoners victims of rape.

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 18, 2012 (SPS) - The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez met Monday with representatives of the Saharawi associations ofhuman rights within the framework of his visit to the Saharawi occupied territories, according Saharawi rights resources.

 

The UN special rapporteur on torture met Monday with the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) and the members of the Sahrawi Committee for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

 

AMDH calls for UN mechanism to protect human rights in Western Sahara

Tindouf authorities deliver humanitarian aids for Saharawi refugees

Tindouf (Algeria), Sept 17, 2012 (SPS) - Local authorities of Algerian city of Tindouf delivered Monday, at headquarters of the Wilaya, humanitarian assistance for benefit of the Saharawi refugees to a delegation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic led by the Minister of Education Ms. Mariam Salek Hmada.


The move comes in the framework of solidarity initiatives with the Sahara people.

HRW: Morocco has not seen “significant evolution” regarding respect for human rights

Rabat, Sept 17, 2012 (SPS) - The Deputy Middle East and North Africa Director at Human Rights Watch, Eric Goldstein, has noted that Morocco has not seen “significant evolution” with regard to the respect for human rights, highlighting in statements quoted by Spanish News Agency EFE that there are more than 20 Saharawi prisoners still awaiting to be brought before military trail for their participation un Gdeim Izik events on October 2010.

UN Rapporteur Juan Mendez arrives in occupied capital El Aaiun

Mendez arrived Sunday night in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara, amid a tight security measures imposed by Moroccan occupation authorities, according to Saharawi rights sources.


The UN Rapporteur will held today and tomorrow talks with Moroccan occupation authorities, Saharawi rights organizations and victims of human rights abuses in occupied Western Sahara, according to agenda of the visit.

Mendez in the city, part of a visit to Morocco and occupied Western Sahara that started Saturday, informed Saharawi media source.
