Saharawi organizations calls on UN to protect human rights in Western Sahara

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 19, 2012 (SPS) -The President of Trade Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers and the Coordination of Sahrawi Gdim Izik, Sidamed  Edia has  called for the establishment of an international mechanism for the protection of human rights in Western Sahara, during a meeting held today with the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Méndez.

 

The meeting focused on the situation of human rights in Western Sahara and the rights of workers since era the Spanish colonialism.

 

The President of Trade Union Confederation of Saharawi Workers, Sidamed  Edia, denounced the plundering of natural resources of Western Sahara, calling it another form of colonization used by Morocco since its illegal invasion to Western Sahara. (SPS)
