UN Special Rapporteur meets Saharawi rights associations

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Sept 18, 2012 (SPS) - The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, Juan Mendez met Monday with representatives of the Saharawi associations ofhuman rights within the framework of his visit to the Saharawi occupied territories, according Saharawi rights resources.

 

The UN special rapporteur on torture met Monday with the Collective of Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA) and the members of the Sahrawi Committee for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

 

During this meeting, the file on the violations of human rights by the Moroccan authorities in Western Sahara and the testimonies of citizens of all ages, victims of violence, was handed to the UN rapporteur.

 

The members of CODESA, headed by Aminatou Haider, recalled the dozens of annual reports made public by CODESA, confirming these inhuman practices.

 

On the other hand, the UN special rapporteur on torture met with the members of Sahrawi committee for the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination.

 

The two sides focused on the torture and the ill-treatments perpetrated by the occupying Moroccan forces against Sahrawi human rights activists. (SPS)
