Tifariti (liberated territories), Dec 15, 2011 (SPS) - The Thirteenth Congress of the Frente Polisario, which bears the name of the Martyr Mahfud Ali Beiba, opened this morning in the liberated town of Tifariti under the title "independent Saharawi state is the solution", in the presence of more than 300 foreign participants and 2100 Saharawi delegates.

European Parliament rejects extension of the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement

Strasburg ,Dec 14, 2011(SPS) The European Parliament voted on Wednesday to reject a proposed extension of the EU-Morocco fisheries agreement, by 296 votes to 326, with 58 abstentions, according to the EP website.

 

The current protocol, which has applied provisionally since 28 February 2011, will cease to apply immediately.
 

Egyptians Vote in New Round of Parliamentary Elections

Cairo Dec. 14 (SPS) - Egyptians have begun voting in the second round of parliamentary elections, following a first round that was dominated by Islamist parties.

 

Polls opened in nine areas Wednesday, including Aswan, Beni Suef, Giza, Ismailia, Suez and Sohag. 

 

Voting will continue Thursday for the seats in the 498-member lower house of parliament.  A third round of elections covering the remaining nine provinces will take place in early January.

 

Tunisia’s assembly elects human rights activist as interim president

TUNIS, Tunisia Dec. 13 (SPS) — Tunisia’s new assembly chose a veteran rights activist Monday as the country’s first democratically elected president.

 

Moncef Marzouki of the Congress for the Republic Party on Monday became interim president with 153 out of 217 votes in the assembly, with three voting against, two abstentions and 44 blank ballots cast as a protest vote by some members.

Jean Ping starts working and solidarity visit to Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid El Hafed (Saharawi Refugee Camps) Dec 13, 2011 (SPS) -Chairperson of the African Union Commission Mr. Jean Ping, accompanied  with AU Commissioner for Peace and Security Ambassador Ramadan Al-Amamra began on Tuesday one day working and solidarity visit to the Saharawi refugee camps and liberated territories.

 

The visit allows EU officials to closely notice the situation living by Sahrawi refugees as well as to meet SADR officials to discuss the latest developments of the Saharawi cause and issues of mutual interest.

 

Visit of 720 Spaniards to Sahrawi refugee camps: denied thesis of insecurity (Government

Chahid El Hafed, December 12, 2011 (SPS) The annual visit of more  than 720 Spaniards to the Sahrawi refugee camps, went in good conditions of safety, is a " formal denial "to allegations of insecurity prevails following  the kidnapping of three European aid workers by terrorists, said a statement of SADR Foreign Ministry.

 

"The stay of ten days for more than 720 Spaniards from different autonomous provinces of Spain is eloquent proof that security is guaranteed  inside the Sahrawi refugee camps," the source underlined.

Organizations and environmentalists reject renewal of EU fisheries with Morocco

Madrid, Dec 12, 2011 (SPS) - International environmentalists and social organizations have sent a letter to all Spanish MEPs asking them to vote against the renewal of the fisheries agreement between the European Union and Morocco that include waters of Western Sahara, according to the website of environmentalists quoted by the Spanish News Agency (EFE).

The signatories of the letter believe that the fisheries agreements signed so far constitute a flagrant violation of the international law, because it includes the waters of Western Sahara.
