Zimbabwe reaffirms firm support to legitimate Saharawi struggle

Harare, August 26, 2015 (SPS) - Zimbabwe Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi on Tuesday reaffirmed his country’s firm support to the legitimate struggle of the Saharawi people for freedom and independence, said a statement of the Saharawi embassy in Harare.


In a meeting with Saharawi Ambassador Deich Mohamed Saleh, the minister indicated that Zimbabwe is clear that Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara is illegal and contradicts the resolutions of the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU).

Algeria supports cultural sector through training program

Minister of Culture received by Algerian counterpart

 Algeria 23 August 2015 (SPS) – Minister of Culture of Khadija Hamdi was received Sunday by her Algerian counterpart Azzedine Mihoubi, at the headquarters of the Algerian Ministry of Culture.

 

The visit comes within the framework of the bilateral relations between the two ministries and the means to further reinforce the strong relations that exist between the two brotherly countries and peoples.

 

European human rights activists expelled from occupied El Aiun

El Aiun (Occupied Territories), 24 August, 2015 (SPS) - European searchers and human rights activists have been driven out of the occupied town of El Aiun, Western Sahara, by Moroccan occupation forces, to prevent them from enquiring about the situation of human rights in the occupied territories.

 

A Spanish and a French activists, who were due to meet with the Coordination of Saharawi Human Rights Groups, have been forced to leave the territories by Moroccan occupation authorities.

The Sahrawi singer Mariem Hassan dies after illness

Smara (sahrawi refugee camps), 23 Aug, 2015 (SPS)- the Sahrawi singer Mariem Hassan, has died aged 57 ,Saturday morning, after along struggle with cancer.


Mariem has buried in the cemetery of Smara. Her funeral was attended by the Prime Minister Mr. Abd-el-Kader Taleb Omar, in addition to civil and military cadres and artists. 


She was a singer with a noble message, through which she struggled to spread the voice of the Sahrawi people who struggle for freedom and independence.

UN SG calls for rapid settlement of Western Sahara conflict

New York (UN), August 22, 2015 (SPS) -The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for the umpteenth time for a rapid settlement of the Western Sahara conflict, in a report on the development of the Saharawi question submitted to the General Assembly which should begin its work on 15 September.

 

Danish Major General Kurt Mosgaard calls for human rights mandate to MINURSO

Copenhagen, August 21, 2015 (SPS) - Former head of MINURSO troops, Major General Kurt Mosgaard, stressed the need to give the United  Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara a mandate to monitor human rights in the territory, adding that there is currently no impartial bodies on the ground to handle with the task.

Algerian Journalists Committee for breaking siege on Saharawi struggle

Algiers, August 20, 2015 (SPS) - Algerian Journalists Committee in solidarity with Takbar Haddi has invited journalists across the world to act so to break the silence and siege imposed on the struggle of Saharawi people, in a petition addressed to the United Nations.


In a press conference held in the Saharawi media center in Algiers on Thursday, the Committee called for action to ensure the respect for international legitimacy in Western Sahara and the right of the Saharawi people to freedom and independence.

Mr. Jacob reaffirmed the principled position to Saharawi cause has long shown by the Republic of Zimbabwe in the international forums.

Saharawi activist tortured by Moroccan police at Casablanca airport

Casablanca, August 20, 2015 (SPS) - Moroccan police forces on Tuesday severely tortured the Sahrawi activist, Leila Lili, at Casablanca airport on her return from Algiers, where she took part in the 6th edition of the Summer University of Polisario Front and SADR cadres, said a source from the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.


Moroccan police officers subjected the activist Leila Lili to inspection and degrading harassment of human dignity.
