Abu Dhabi, 30/06/2015 (SPS).- There are mounting concerns regarding the links between Moroccan drug barons and narco-jihadists linked to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and the Movement for Unity and Jihad in West Africa, wrote yesterday Dr Abdelkader Cheref, professor at the State University of New York at Potsdam on the pages of Abu Dhabi's daily The National.

 El Aaiun (The occupied territories) June 30, 2015 (SPS) - Sahrawi Association of Victims of gross violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan State, has declared its full solidarity with the Moroccan journalist Ali Lmrabet, in a statement issued by it on Monday, a copy of it reached SPS.

 



 The Association demanded in its statement the Moroccan state to facilitate the access to identity documents to Ali Lmrabet, and provide him with the conditions to continue his work as an independent journalist.

Sevilla, 06/30/2015 (SPS) .- Edi Escobar, activist of the Andalusian Platform Support of Takbar Haddi denounced yesterday the maneuvers of Morocco to prevent clarification of the young Saharawi Mohamed Lamine Haidala murder.
 

In statements published by EMARTV, Escobar said that "the action of the Morocco Government remain diversion maneuvers in place of a firm intention to clarify what happened and establish responsibilities."

Madrid, 30/06/2015 (SPS) .- If there is no a real and firm pressure, Morocco will not give steps towards the decolonization of Western Sahara, said Abdullah Larabi, saharawi representative in Madrid.
 

In a statement to the newspaper Sputnik Novosti, Abdullah said that "while Morocco doesn't receive a real and firm pressure, it will continue looking the other way and no progress will be realized towards decolonization".
 

International Student Movement for the United Nations expresses its serious concern on the ongoing occupation of Western Sahara

US Department of State denounces human rights violations by Morocco in Western Sahara

Washington, 29 June 2015 (SPS) - US Department of State denounced, in its annual report 2014 on the situation of human rights in the world, the serious violations of human rights perpetrated by the Moroccan occupying forces in Western Sahara.

 

The report published recently broaches the intimidation experienced by the Sahrawi human rights activists claiming the right to self-determination, the persistence of arbitrary arrests in defiance of the law and the repression of freedom of expression by the Moroccan occupying authorities.

 

Polisario Front becomes party to Geneva Conventions, launches solemn appeal to companies operating in Western Sahara

Berne, June 27, 2015 (SPS) -  The Polisario Front, through an approach with the Swiss Federal Council, as the depositary of the Geneva Conventions, declared that it is "committed to the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and Protocol I in the conflict between it and the Kingdom of Morocco," according to a statement by Saharawi coordinator with MINURSO Mhamed Khaddad.

 

“Holidays in peace” program: First group of Saharawi children arrives in Andalusia

 Sevilla (Spain), June 28, 2015 (SPS) - A group of 160, out of a total of 1,300, Saharawi children arrived Friday at Malaga airport (Andalusia) to spend their summer holidays with the Andalusian families, as part of "Holidays in Peace" program.

 

 The group was received by in Andalusia by the representatives of the associations along with the delegation of Polisario Front in the region.

 

 In a statement to the press, the Sahrawi representative thanked the Andalusian host families for their solidarity.

 

Saharawi political prisoner sentenced to 8 months in prison

 El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), June 28, 2015 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation court in the occupied city of El Aaiun sentenced the Saharawi political prisoner Ghali Zigham to eight months in prison, according to a source of the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Community Abroad.

 

 The Saharawi political prisoner entered courtroom chanting slogans calling for self-determination and independence for the Sahrawi people before the Moroccan police silenced him by force.

 

Humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees: Algeria's contribution "invaluable"

Algiers, 28 June 2015 (SPS) - LGIERS- Algeria's contribution in terms of humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees is "invaluable," said the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Algiers, Hamdi Bukhari.

 

"We have witnessed Algeria's very substantial contribution in terms of humanitarian aid to this population. This shows Algeria's commitment towards refugees," Bukhari told APS.

 

SADR grants exploration rights to mining companies

Birlehlu (Liberated Zones), 27 June 2015 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is currently in talks with three mining companies- Russian, Polish and Spanish – on granting them exploration rights on the liberated Sahrawi zones, according to Africa Intelligence. 

 

The talks are being conducted on the Sahrawi side by the Petroleum and Mining Authorities (PMA) following SADR’s decision a few months ago to manage mining resources in the liberated zones.

 

UN Human Rights Council : The Saharawi delegation organize a workshop on human rights

Geneva, 06/26/2015 (SPS) .- The delegation attending the works of the 29th session of the United Nations Council for Human Rights organized a workshop on human rights in Western Sahara where the mother Sahrawi Takbar Haddi briefed on the circumstances of the assassination of his son Mohamed Lamine Haidala.


Ms. Haddi asked to pressure Morocco to get him to respond to her legitimate claims to know the truth surrounding the murder of his son and punishment of the culprits.

Humanitarian aid of Algerian women to Sahrawi refugees

Boujdour (refugee camps), 06/26/2015 (SPS) .- The National Union of Algerian Women (UNFA) delivered today humanitarian aid to Sahrawi refugees in the context of a twinning with the National Union of Saharawi Women (UNFS).
 

The UNFS and the Saharawi Red Crescent (SRC) have overseen the delivery which consists of a considerable amount of food, blankets and clothing items.

UN Committee of 24 calls to speed up decolonization process in Western Sahara

New York, 25/06/2015 (SPS).- The examination of the question of Western Sahara in the UN Decolonization Committee was characterized by numerous interventions defending international legality in Western Sahara, a conflict that almost 40 years.

 

Swift action must be taken to end the “dangerous status quo” in Western Sahara and to finally grant independence to the “last African colony”, the Special Committee of 24 heard today, as it approved five draft resolutions on a range of items on its agenda.
