Ambassador Ubbi Bachraya warns of new Rwanda genocide in Western Sahara

Abuja, April 23, 2014 (SPS) - The Sahrawi Ambassador to Nigeria Mr. Ubbi Bacharaya Bachir have warned Tuesday of a new Rwanda genocide in Western Sahara, if the Security Council’s Member States, especially France, do not allow for human rights monitoring being included in the MINURSO mandate.

International community called to respond to human rights violations in Western Sahara

Washington, April 22, 2014 (SPS) - The U.S. non-governmental organization Not Forgotten International has expressed, in a letter sent to the 2nd International Conference in Support of Saharawi Women’s Resistance, held on the current April 17-20 in the occupied city of El Aaiun, “continuing support and commitment” the just struggle of the Saharawi people.

Second International Conference in Support of Sahrawi Women Resistance organized in occupied territories

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), April 21, 2014 (SPS) - The National Union of Sahrawi Women organized the Second International Conference in Support of Sahrawi Women Resistance, April 17-20, in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, with the participation of many women representing  political social and cultural organizations, from different world continents.
 
The program of the Conference included meetings with various Sahrawi organizations and focused on introducing the gross violations of human rights experienced by the Saharawi people

Washignton (United States) , April 20, 2014 (SPS) - The president of the American nongovernmental organization “Robert F. Kennedy for Justice and Human Rights” (RFKennedy Centre), Kerry Kennedy, condemned Friday the violent repression perpetrated Tuesday by the Moroccan forces in El Aaiun against the Saharawis’ peaceful protest for independence, leaving tens of protestors injured.

UN Security Council holds consultations on situation in Western Sahara

New York (United Nations) April 19, 2014 (SPS) -  The UN Security Council held on Thursday consultations on the question of  Western Sahara and its developments in the light of the report of the Secretary-General of the United Nations submitted April 10.

 

It has been decided to introduce a motion on April 23, regarding the Sahrawi issue, particularly the renewal of the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in the Western Sahara (MINURSO), respect for human rights and protection of natural resources in Western Sahara.

115 NGOs call for extending MINURSO's mandate to human rights monitoring

Algeria "satisfied" with UN SG report on Western Sahara

Algiers, April 18, 2014 (SPS) - Algeria welcomes "with satisfaction" UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon’s report on Western Sahara, presented to the Security Council, said Monday the Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdelaziz Benali Cherif.

 

"Algeria welcomes the fact that this report recalls that Western Sahara issue is a question of decolonization and that this  territory is constantly listed on the UN list of non-self governing territories, since 1963," the spokesman told to APS.

Madrid, April 17, 2014 (SPS) - 19 Spanish cultural and political non-governmental organizations have asked the UN Security Council to take its responsibilities in maintaining international peace and security in accordance with the UN principles and purposes, by voting “favourably” to expand the powers of MINURSO to include sustained human rights monitoring in Western Sahara.
