SADR anniversary celebrated in Australia

Melbourne (Australia) Feb28, 2013(SPS) the 37th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) was celebrated on Wednesday 27th through several activities, according to the Australian Western Sahara Association (AWSA).
 

SADR flags have been raised on various public buildings around Australia, including Leichhardt Town Hall in Sydney, Richmond Town Hall and Victoria Trades Hall in Melbourne, Trades Hall in Ballarat.the source indicated .

Dublin (Ireland) Feb28,2013(SPS) “ Ireland has consistently called for the mandate of MINURSO, the United Nations Mission in Western Sahara monitoring the ceasefire with Western Sahara, to include a human rights monitoring element.” said last Tuesday  the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ireland Eamon Gilmore.
 

“We believe this would provide invaluable independent and impartial information on the status of human rights in Western Sahara,” he added.

Smara (Saharawi refugee camps)Feb27,2013(SPS) the Wilaya of Smara held on Wednesday the national festivities to commemorate the 37th anniversary of the proclamation of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic(SADR) with presence of President of the Republic , secretary general of the Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz and an important  Algerian delegation leads by deputy  speaker of the Algerian Parliament JIlali Kneiber, in addition to   members of the Governments and Parliaments as well as high cadres of  the state and  the Polisario Front.
 

Sinn Féin expresses its opposition to Moroccan human rights abuses against the Saharawis

Doblin (Ireland) Feb26, 2013(SPS) the Irish party Sinn Féin expressed on Wednesday its opposition to human rights abuses against the Saharawis in the occupied territories of Western Sahara, in a press release, reached SPS.
    

“Sinn Féin stands totally opposed to the human rights abuses inflicted on Sahrawis by the Moroccan authorities.” the Party stated.
 

The Party denounced Moroccan military court’s decision of sentencing 25 Saharawi political prisoner with rulings from20years to life sentences.

Over 440 runners at 13th Sahara Marathon

Smara,Feb27,2013(SPS) - Over 440 Sahrawi and foreign runners took part in the 13th Marathon of Western Sahara "Sahara Marathon," which kicked off Tuesday in the Sahrawi refugee camp of Smara.
 

The sporting event kicked off in presence of member of the National Secretariat Polisario Front, Mohamed Lamine Ahmed, Sahrawi Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maulod Mohamed Fadel and large crowd.
 

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights expresses concern about Moroccan verdicts against Gdeim Izik Group

Banjul (Gambia) Feb26,2013(SPS) the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, expressed deep concern about the Moroccan military court’s rulings against 25 Saharawi political prisoners known as Gdeim Izik Group.
 

“The African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights (the Commission) is deeply concerned about the trial and sentencing of twenty-five (25) Sahrawi civilians by a military court in Rabat, Morocco from 8-16 February 2013.” said the Commission in a statement reached SPS.

More than 400 runners participating in Sahara Marathon 2013

Boujdur(Saharawi  Refugees Camps)Feb26,2013(SPS) the Minister for youth and Sports, Mohamed Maulud Mohamed Fadel, on Tuesday indicated that more than400 national and international runners will participate in the 13th edition of Sahara Marathon to be started on Tuesday.
 

In a press conference held on Monday in wilaya of Boujdour, the Minister said that 442 runners from five nationalities will participate; highlighting the weakness of foreign participation is due to the situation taking place in Mali.
 

WSRW calls for halt of EU trade talks with Morocco

Londo,Feb26,2013(SPS)In view of the incredibly harsh verdicts in the Gdeim Izik trial, which failed to meet the international standards for a fair trial, Western Sahara Resource Watch has appealed to the European Commission to put ongoing discussions for increased trade with Morocco on hold.
 

Western Sahara Resource Watch has sent letters to the European Commissioner for Trade, Mr Karel De Gucht, and the European Commissioner for Fisheries, Mrs Maria Damanaki.

CTA repudiates sentences rendered against Gdeim Izik detainees

Buenos Aires, Feb 25, 2013 (SPS) - Argentine Workers’ Central Union (Spanish acronym; CTA) has repudiated the sentences rendered against the 24 Saharawi political prisoners, known as Gdeim Izik group, in an open violation to international law and human rights, according to a press release issued Monday.


CTA expressed hope that the Argentine government once again ratifies international leadership of our country in the defense of human rights, through the rejection of this process which is incompatible with the most basic standards of justice.

WSRW asks Danske Vejsal to stop importing salt from Western Sahara

London, Feb 25, 2013 (SPS) - Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) asked Monday the Danish company “Danske Vejsal” to stop importing salt of Western Sahara for the treatment of road works in winter, according to a statement published on its website.


“Danish winter roads must not be de-iced at the expense of human rights violations. Danske Vejsalt must immediately stop its purchase from the occupied territories,” stated Morten Nielsen of Afrika Kontakt.

Saharawi civil society appeals to UNHCR to protect Saharawis from Moroccan oppression

Algerian and African community in France condemn verdict against Gdeim Izik group

Algiers, Feb 25, 2013 (SPS) - Representatives of Algerian and African origin community living in France, who are in solidarity with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), organized Sunday evening in Algiers a rally, in which they expressed solidarity with the 25 Saharawi political prisoners of Gdeim Izik, condemning the “severe sentences” pronounced in their case by the military court in Rabat.
