International conference in Florence on Saharawi human rights

Rome, June 16, 2012 (SPS) - An international conference to raise awareness about the human rights abuses in the occupied territories of Western Sahara is to take place today in Florence, Italy, under the title: “the right to human rights: Western Sahara between occupation and self-determination”, in the presence of the President of the Republic and Secretary General of the POLISARIO Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz.

UN chief appoints Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber of Germany as new Special Representative in Western Sahara

New York, June 16, 2012 (SPS) - The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, appointed Friday Mr. Wolfgang Weisbrod-Weber of Germany as his new Special Representative and Head of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (known as MINURSO), successor to the late Hany Abdel-Aziz of Egypt.


The new Representative has 28 years of experience with the United Nations and a strong background in peacekeeping direction and management, both in headquarters and in field operations.

Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reaffirms compromise to self-determination of Saharawi people

New York, June 16, 2012 (SPS) - The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has reaffirmed its commitment to the self-determination of Saharawi people, in an intervention by Mr. Jorge Valero, Permanent REpresentative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the UN on the matter of Western Sahara in the UN Special Committee of Decolonization in New York.

South Africa continue to support just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution in Western Sahara

Moroccan authorities arrest Saharawi athletic Salah Amidan at Marrakech airport

  Marrakech (Morocco) June14, 2012(SPS) the Moroccan authorities, Wednesday have arrested, the Saharawi runner, Salah Din Amidan with his brothers, Abba Shikh and Mostapha, in addition to Norwegian citizen, at the airport of Marrakech, according to Saharawi judicial sources.

The sources added that the Moroccan authorities are arresting Salah and his brothers and the Norwegian citizen at Marrakech airport after their arrival from Paris in their way to the occupied territories of Western Sahara to visit Amidan’s family.

President of National Media Commission of Ghana expressesinterest to cooperate with SADR

Accra, June 13, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the National MediaCommission  of Ghana, Kabral Blay-Amihere, has expressed interest in a constructive  cooperation with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republi, during a meeting with Ambassador of SADR in Ghana, Mahjoub Sidina , held Tuesday.

 

The meeting is part of visits made by the Sharawi Ambassador to inform the Ghanaian responsible for the latest developments of the Saharawi cause.

 

Moroccan political party calls for respect to right of Saharawi people to self-determination

Rabat (Morocco), June 13, 2012 (SPS) - The national committee of the Moroccan party “the Democratic Way” has called for respect to the right of Saharawi people to self-determination.

 

"The Democratic Way" stressed the need to "rely on international legitimacy through the application of  a negotiated solution based on the implementation of the principle of self-determination for the Sahrawi people which respects their right to free,  fair and democratic choice ", according to statement culminated the ordinary session of the party’s national committee.

President of Republic accuses Moroccan intelligence services to attempt to link Saharawi people struggle to terrorism

 DAkhla (Saharawi refugee camps) June12, 2012(SPS) – President of the Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front Mohamed Abdelaziz accused the Moroccan intelligence services of "attempting to compromise the struggle of the Saharawi people by linking it to terrorism and drug trafficking.

"The Moroccan intelligence services are trying to undermine the struggle of the Saharawi people by linking it to terrorism and drug trafficking," said the president in his speech at the end of meeting of political commissars of the Polisario Front in held in Dakhla from 9 to June112012.

Western Sahara: New York City bar Association confirms illegality of any plan excluding option of independence

Washington  (United States)June12,2012(SPS) - New York City  Bar Association (NYCBA) has confirmed illegality of any plan excluding independence as an option in relation to Saharawi people’s right to self-determination. Limiting the choice to Morocco’s autonomy plan was not in line with the international law, it stressed.
 

The findings of the Bar Association of New York in a study published Monday and titled "legal issues relating to Western Sahara conflict."

Brussels, June 10, 2012 (SPS) - Friends of the Saharawi people in Belgium have organized a demonstration in solidarity with the Saharawi political prisoners of Sale’s jail and with Lafgir Kaziza, who entered his 10 day of hunger strike, in front of embassy of Morocco.


The demonstrators demanded that Moroccan state halt its violations of human rights in the occupied part of Western Sahara, as to release all the Saharawi political detainees without delay.
