"The human rights situation in the occupied territories is getting worse" (Sahrawi human rights activist)

Algiers, June 19, 2024 (SPS) - The President of Collective of the Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders "CODESA", Ali Salem Tamek, confirmed that the human rights situation in Western Sahara is getting worse, warning against any slide that the situation may witness due to the Moroccan occupation's impunity and accountability and its persistence in its systematic criminal practices, in light of the "inability" of the international community to impose the application of international legitimacy in Western Sahara.

Historical Zemla Intifada "marked beginnings of Sahrawi national consciousness"

Geneva, 17 June 2024 (SPS) - The representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland and at the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ubbi Bushraya Bashir, pointed out that the historical Zemla Intifada on June 17, 1970, led by Mohamed Sidi Brahim Bassiri, "marked the beginnings of Sahrawi national consciousness" by framing the collective Sahrawi sentiment and crystallizing it into a political national affiliation with clear goals of liberation and independence.

International solidarity activists call on UN to enable Sahrawi people to exercise its right to self-determination and freedom

New York (UN), 15 June 2024 (SPS) - International solidarity activists have called on the United Nations to enable the Sahrawi people to exercise their right to self-determination and freedom.

This came during petitions they submitted before the thematic session of the Special Committee (Committee 24), which began its work last Monday at UN headquarters in New York.
