Call for exerting pressure on Morocco to halt suffering on Sahrawi detainees on strike

El-Aaiun (occupied territories), March 26, 2018 (SPS) - The League for the Sahrawi Prisoners’ Protection expressed deep concern over the critical situation of those prisoners in the Moroccan jails, calling upon all the international organizations to bring on pressure to bear on Morocco to stop the sufferings of the Sahrawi detainees on hunger strike and guarantee their legitimate rights as political detainees.

Serbia supports UN process in Western Sahara

Belgrade, March 25, 2018 (SPS) - Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has reaffirmed his country's position on the Western Sahara issue, stressing that "Serbia has never changed its position on this issue."
Hosting a press conference with Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel, on a visit to Serbia, Ivica Dacic reiterated Serbia's commitment to international legality and support to the United Nations efforts to resolve the Western Sahara conflict on the basis of dialogue between the two parties and without preconditions. Kohler meets with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs

Washington, March 25, 2018 (SPS) - United Nations Secretary General’s Personal Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler met in Washington with Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Satterfield with whom he held discussions on prospects of settlement of conflict in Western Sahara.
The discussions were held as part of the broadened consultations initiated by the German mediator to relaunch UN process, in deadlock since 2012.

Kohler suggests direct, unconditional negotiations in 2018

Security Council expresses full support for Kohler's efforts

New York, March 24, 2018 (SPS) - United Nations Security Council on Wednesday has expressed full support for the efforts of the UN Secretary General's Personal Envoy, Horst Kohler, for the relaunch of the peace process in Western Sahara.
"The members of the Security Council express their full support for the efforts of the UN envoy," said Security Council's President Karel Jan Gustaaf Van Oosterom (Netherlands) at the end of the first briefing with Kohler.
