Koehler On the eve of the presentation of his report to the Security Council, according to Sahrawi diplomat  source.

Portuguese Parliament stresses Western Sahara people's right to self-determination

Lisbon (Portugal), March 18, 2018 (SPS) - The Assembly of the Republic of Portugal (parliament) has approved a motion through which it welcomed the resumption of Western Sahara negotiation process, under the aegis of the United Nations, stressing it was time to reach a solution ensuring Saharawi people's right to self-determination, a source said Sunday.
The motion, approved on March 9th in a plenary session at the Portuguese Parliament, "welcomed the resumption of the negotiation process in (occupied) Western Sahara under the aegis of the United Nations.

Kohler’s first briefing Wednesday in New York

New York, March 18, 2018 (SPS) - The United National Envoy for Western Sahara Horst Kohler on Wednesday will present to the Security Council the first conclusions of his mediation which started in last October, a first briefing closely scrutinized in New York shortly before the next report on the Western Sahara conflict.
During the meeting to take place in camera, Kohler will be accompanied by the new Head of the MINURSO (United Nations Mission for Referendum in Western Sahara) Colin Stewart, appointed in December.

President of Republic appoints Abdelkader Talib Omar Ambassador to Algeria

Shaheed Al-Hafed, March 17, 2018 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, on Saturday issued a presidential decree appointing a member of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, former prime minister, Abdelkader Talib Omar, as Ambassador to the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria.

Italy grants 1 million Euros as aid to Sahrawi refugees

Algiers, March 15, 2018 (SPS)   - The Italian Foreign Ministry has approved the granting of one million euro humanitarian aid to the UN World Food Programme (PAM) and the UN Funds for Children (UNICEF), said Italian embassy to Algiers, adding that the aid will be destined to support the emergency actions, in terms of nutrition, health and education for the Sahrawi refugees.
 The aid is composed of two contributions, namely €0.5 million for the WFP and €0.5 million for the Unicef, said the same source.

Several Sahrawi political prisoners in Morocco go on hunger strike

Paris, March 15, 2018 (SPS)   - Several Sahrawi political prisoners are on hunger strike in Moroccan prisons to denounce their detention conditions, and to claim and defend the right to self-determination, a source close to the Sahrawis in Paris said Thursday.
Sahrawi activist Naâma Asfari began an unlimited hunger strike on February 27th, solemnly declaring "it is better to die for dignity than to live without it".

Canary Coalition reaffirms its support to UN-AU peace process

Tenerife (Spain), March 15, 2018 (SPS) - The political party that governs the Canary Islands, Canary Coalition, reaffirmed its support for the peace process, led by the United Nations and the African Union, to resolve the conflict in Western Sahara, enabling the Saharawi people to exercise their right to self-determination.
The statements were made during a meeting in the municipality of Orotava, between the Secretary General of the Canary Coalition, Francisco Linares and the delegate of the Frente POLISARIO in the Canary Islands, Hamdi Mansur.
