African Union committed to holding self-determination referendum in Western Sahara

Washington, 29 February 2020 (SPS) -  The African Union (AU) is committed to holding a self-determination referendum in Western Sahara, said US Senator Jim Inhofe (Republican of Oklahoma), who led a delegation to Africa to discuss, among other things, the "importance of a constant military cooperation continues" in the region.

Namibia: Opening foreign consulates in occupied Saharawi territories is a flagrant violation of international and African laws

WINDHOEK (Namibia) 26 February 2020 (SPS)- The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation of Namibia issued a statement rejecting the opening of consulates in the occupied territories of Western Sahara by some African countries, considering it as a flagrant violation of International and African laws.
Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Executive Director in the ministry said that the act is in direct conflict with United Nations and African Union resolutions and is a support of the occupation of Western Sahara and the concomitant suffering of the Saharawi people.

Gaborone (Botswana), 25 February 2020 (SPS) - The Ambassador of the Saharawi Republic and Permanent Representative to SADC, Mr. Malainin Mohamed, paid a courtesy visit Tuesday morning to Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Phandu Skelemani, in his office in Botswana Parliament (Gaborone).
The Honorable Speaker was accompanied in the meeting with the Honorable Deputy Speaker, Mr. Mabuse Pule, and members of the Speaker’s bureau and Secretariat of Parliament.

Smara (Sahrawi refugee camps), Feb 25, 2020 (SPS) -The Minister of Youth and Sports Mr. Mussa Selma uderlined that the 20th edition of the Sahara marathon constitutes a message of peace and means of struggle for the Saharawi cause.
According to Minister of Youth and Sports, the 20th edition of the Sahara marathon shows that this marathon "is starting to bear fruit in view of the scale and quality of this participation", noting that this event aims to raise awareness of public opinion for the cause of the Saharawi people and their legitimate struggle.

Saharawi athlete Lahcen wins Sahara Marathon20th edition

Smara, Feb 25;  2020 (SPS) - The Sahrawi athlete, Lahcen Mohamed Sid Ahmed won first place in the Sahara marathon (42 km) of the 20th edition, which kicked off this morning from the wilaya of 'El Aoun towards the wilaya of Smara.
Mr. Lahcen Mohamed won first place over the same distance during the 18th edition and came in second position during the 19th edition, we recall.

The Saharawi Commission lamented the loss of the Saharawi activist. In that sense, he expressed in a statement released yesterday, his most sincere condolences and his solidarity with the family and friends of the deceased.

The marchers protested against unemployment, the high cost of living and the breakdown of public services while demanding the release of political prisoners.

New York (United Nations), 24 February 2020 (SPS) - The United Nations must continue to be a forum for dialogue on decolonization as 17 territories around the world are still waiting to be self-governing, said UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres.
"Decolonization is a process that has to be guided by the aspirations and needs of the communities living in the territories," said Guterres in his opening address at the first meeting of the 2020 session of the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization, Friday in New York.

Nigeria reiterates support to Western Sahara people's just cause
