Reykjavik (Iceland), 07 April 2019 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the POLISARIO Front, Brahim Ghali, has reaffirmed that the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, President Horst Koehler, collide with Morocco's intransigent position, which is contrary to the resolutions of the Security Council, seeks to impose preconditions that deviate from the legal framework of the solution, and violate international legitimacy.

UN denounces construction of sand wall by Morocco

New York, April 6, 2019 (SPS) - The United Nations has denounced the construction by Morocco of a new wall of sand near occupied Sahrawi territory of Mahbes which it described as a "major violation" of the military agreement N 1, demanding the dismantling of this barrier as well as all military posts deployed by the Moroccan army in restricted areas.

British high court of justice upholds CJEU decision

London (United Kingdom), April 6, 2019 (SPS)- England and Wales High Court (EWHC) has recently implemented the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), which has recognized occupied Western Sahara people's right to self-determination, after the examination of a complaint lodged by Western Sahara Campaign UK (WSCUK).
The CJEU ruled in 2018 that the European Union, in concluding agreements with Morocco, must respect Western Sahara people's right to self-determination.

President, Brahim Gali, meets with Iceland Prime Minister

Reykjavik (Iceland), April 04, 2019 (SPS) - The President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Secretary General of the Frente POLISARIO, Brahim Gali, meets with the Icelandic Prime Minister, Katrin Jakobsdóttir, as part of the official visit to Iceland.
Katrin Jakobsdóttir welcomed the Saharawi leader and pointed out the interest of his government towards the advances in Western Sahara and the support for the efforts for a solution based on compliance with international legality and United Nations resolutions.

"Hamada" film on Sahrawi youth of refugee camps awarded in Paris

Paris, April 1, 2019 (SPS) - Documentary film "Hamada" on the Sahrawi youth of the refugee camps was awarded twice at the “Cinéma du reel” festival, organizers said Wednesday.
The “Cinéma du reel” festival took place in Paris from March 15 to 24, the documentary film of the Spanish director who has been living in Sweden since 2012, Eloy Dominguez Serén, was screened, which received the Loridon Ivens / CNAP prize, worth 6500 euros, and the Youth Prize (15,000 euros).

Shaheed Alhafed, March 29, 2019 (SPS) - The Ministry of Information on Friday celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Sahrawi News Agency, Sahara Press Service (SPS), on March 29, in the presence of members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, government, journalists of the Ministry of Information, and relevant bodies.
The event witnessed organistion of a discussion table on the performance of the Agency since its establishment in 1999.

Ramaphosa to address SADC solidarity conference in Pretoria

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver his welcome address at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) solidarity conference with the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic or Western Sahara, which will be held in Pretoria on Tuesday.
According to the presidency, the conference follows a decision taken at the 37th Summit of the SADC heads of state and government, held in Pretoria in 2017 to convene the Solidarity Conference with Western Sahara.

On Monday and Tuesday the Southern African Development Community will convene a Solidarity Conference with the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) in Tshwane.
The conference will confirm the region’s support for the decolonisation of the occupied territory and for the holding of a referendum on self-determination for the Saharawi people.
Western Sahara is a Non-Self-Governing Territory of the UN that lies in the Sahel region bordered by the Kingdom of Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania.

It seems Morocco has tried everything to deflect attention from the Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) Solidarity Conference with the people of Western Sahara, due to take place in Pretoria on Monday and Tuesday.
The extent to which Morocco has attempted to neutralise African efforts to find a resolution to the conflict and ensure the liberation of Africa’s last colony is a measure of its intransigence and desperation.

South Africa to host conference on occupied Western Sahara

Pretoria, March 24, 2019 (SPS) - South Africa will host the SADC Solidarity Conference on Western Sahara, scheduled for 25 to 26 March 2019 in Pretoria. The conference will be in support of Sahrawi people’s right to freedom and self-determination.
The 38th Ordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government of SADC, held on August 2018, approved the convening of a solidarity conference.

Nearly 200 NGOs denounce Mbarek Daoudi’s detention conditions

Geneva, March 24, 2019 (SPS) - Nearly 200 NGOs denounced on Friday detention conditions of Sahrawi human rights defender Mbarek Daoudi, despite the opinion made by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
Last August, the working group on arbitrary detention of the UN Human Rights Council adopted an opinion regarding the detention of Mbarek Daoudi.
The UN Working Group’s opinion reveals that the Sahrawi human rights defender rarely had a lawyer and that he suffered abuses which led him to confess that the court used to convict him.

End of roundtable on Western Sahara: Delegations called for another round

Geneva (Palais des Nations), March 23, 2019 (SPS) - The delegations of the parties in conflict, Morocco and the Polisario Front and, the neighboring countries, Algeria and Mauritania, were called Friday to a new roundtable on the conflict in occupied Western Sahara.
The delegations who have met for two days in Bursins (Vaud - Switzerland) "welcomed the intention of the UN Personal Envoy to invite them again in the same format," said a statement given to the press.
The statement does not mention the date of the meeting.
