Illegal exploitation of Sahrawi resources: Polisario Front deeply concerned by EU attitude

Bir Lahlou (Liberated Territories), July 22, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front expressed its “deep concern” over the attitude of some countries of the European Union (EU) which are still receiving products from the occupied Sahrawi territories in flagrant violation of the humanitarian international law, said M’hamed Kheddad, head of the external relations of the Polisario Front’s national secretariat.

European Commission only encourages Moroccan occupation, says Sidati

Brussels (Belgium), July 22, 2018 (SPS) - Sahrawi delegate minister for Europe, Mohamed Sidati, said Sunday that the European Commission which agreed with Morocco about a text on the Fisheries Agreement including Western Sahara waters "only encourages the Moroccan occupation of the Sahrawi territories."
Such attitude puts the European Union credibility in doubt.

Havana, July 16, 2018 (SPS) - The 24th edition of the Sao Paulo Forum is being held in Havana, Cuba, from July 15-17, with the participation of a Sahrawi delegation led by Minister for Latin America and the Caribbean, Mansur Omar.
The forum, held in Havana for the third time after the 1993 and 2001 editions, brought together 430 delegates from Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Africa, with the Left’s unity in Latin America and the Caribbean as its theme.

EU-Morocco agreement including Sahrawi territories: Polisario Front firmly condemns, lodges appeal to CJEU

Bir Lahlou, July 16, 2018 (SPS) - The Polisario Front has firmly condemned on Monday the decision taken by the European Union Council to sign an amendment to the EU-Morocco association agreement, including the occupied Sahrawi territories, denouncing this act which scorns the international law and decisions of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) which invalidated these agreements.

Irish parliament approves bill to ban import of products originating in occupied Western Sahara

Dublin (Ireland), July 14, 2018 (SPS) - The Irish Senate on Wednesday approved a bill known as Occupied Territories Bill 2018, which classifies any import or export of goods from and to the occupied territories as a crime punishable by five years imprisonment or a fine of 250,000 euros, indicated a statement of the Polisario Front in the UK.
The bill, proposed by independent MP Frances Black, includes among others the occupied territories of Western Sahara, and will be soon presented to the Chamber of Deputies or Lower Chamber, the source added.

Creation of African mechanism for Western Sahara, important step in resolving conflict

New York, July 8, 2018 (SPS)- The “historic” decision adopted unanimously by the leaders of the African Union (AU) on the creation of an African mechanism for the issue of Western Sahara is an “anticipatory initiative” likely to revitalize AU’s key role, as a fully-committed partner for the United Nations (UN),  and an “important step” considering the Moroccan position aimed at undermining the African efforts for the settlement of the conflict in Western Sahara, said Thursday the Polisario Front in a letter sent to the United Nations and the Security Council.

The Visit of the UN Special Envoy for Western Sahara, Mr. Horst Khöler: The creation of a siege, a wave of arrests, police violence, demonstrations and a media blockade

The UN Special Envoy Horst Khöler has recently visited the region of Western Sahara in order to gain a deeper understanding of the conflict. The Special envoy, after having visited the Saharawi Refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria, arrived in the capital of Western Sahara, Layoune, on 28 June 2018. He toured the region until Sunday, 1 July 2018. In relation to the visit of the Special Envoy, repression against the Saharawi population and demonstrators calling for the right to self-determination have been growing.
