UJSARIO takes part at commemoration of WFDY 70-year anniversary

Windhoek, May 14, 2015 (SPS) - International Secretary of the Saharawi Youth Union (UJSARIO), Hamdi Yusuf, is attending the celebrations commemorating the 70-year anniversary of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), convened in Namibia from 11 to 17 May 2015.


Attended by young people from all continents, the event will see a variety of activities and lectures about liberation movements around the world, WFDY’s role and African woman’s struggle, among many other topics.

New book about Saharawi poetry published in London

London, May 13, 2015 (SPS) - Influx Press has announced the publication of a new book about Saharawi poetry under the title: “Settled Wanderers” by the UK poet Sam Berkson and Saharawi writer Mohamed Sulaiman.


In a ceremony organized in London on Tuesday, author of the book Sam Berkson delivered some poems translated into English for prominent Saharawi poets, including of which “Draimiza” by poet Beibuh Ould Al-Hajj, “Tachwach” by Badi Momahed and “Gdeim Izik” by Husein Maulud.

President of Republic receives reply letter from Nigerian counterpart

Abuja, May 14, 2015 (SPS) - The President of the Republic, Secretary General of the Frente Polisario, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz on Wednesday received a reply letter from his Nigerian counterpart, General Muhammadu Buhari, as response to the one sent on the occasion of his election as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Municipality of Almussafes reaffirms commitment to continue supporting Saharawi people

Valencia (Spain), May 13, 2015 (SPS) - The mayor of the municipality of Almussafes (Valencia), Dr. Albert Girona on Tuesday reaffirmed the commitment of his commune to continue supporting the Saharawi people.


Speaking after a meeting with the Saharawi representative in Valencia Mr. Saad Elmami, the Spanish official expressed commitment of his municipality to continue working so to implement cooperation projects for the benefit of Saharawi refugees.

France, Spain responsible for status quo in Western Sahara, says Khaddad

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 13, 2015 (SPS) - France and Spain are responsible for the status quo in Western Sahara by preventing any prospects of solution to the conflict in this territory occupied since about forty years by Morocco, said Wednesday, in Chahid Al-Hafed (Sahrawi refugee camps), the Saharawi coordinator with MINURSO, M'hamed Kheddad.

Delegation of donor countries arrives in Saharawi refugee camps

Chahid Al Hafed (refugee camps), May 12, 2015 (SPS) - A delegation of the donor countries arrived Tuesday in the Saharawi refugee camps, as part of a visit to assess first-hand the overall humanitarian conditions of the Saharawi refugees, and inspect the projects funded by some donor countries.


The visit comes after the appeal made by the international humanitarian agencies and organizations to send an urgent humanitarian assistance to help overcome food deficit recorded in the Saharawi refugee camps.

CONASADH deeply concerned at Security Council’s apathy towards human rights conventions

Chahid El Hafed (refugee camps), May 12, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi National Commission for Human Rights (CONASADH) has expressed “deep concern and regret” for UN Security Council’s apathy towards human rights charters and conventions, through refusing, in its latest resolution, to adopt a human rights mechanism in Western Sahara.

Trial of Saharawi human rights defender adjourned until May 18th

Dajla (occupied territories), May 12, 2015 (SPS) - A Moroccan court in the occupied city of Dajla on Monday postponed until 18 May 2015 the trial of the Saharawi political prisoner and human rights defender, Atigo Baray, along with 4 young Saharawis, said the Collective of Saharawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).


Family of Atigo Baray said they do not know the reasons surrounding such move, after they were prevented entry into the court’s sessions.

FM calls on UN to set date for self-determination referendum

Saharawi people celebrates 42nd anniversary of Polisario Front

Shaheed Elhafed (refugee camps) May 11, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi people celebrated Sunday 42th anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Front of Seguia al Hamra and Rio de Oro (Polisario Front) May 10, 1973.

 

The Polisario Front is a political movement whose objective is the independence of Western Sahara, then under Spanish control. The occupation of the territory by Morocco in 1975, triggered a liberation war that lasted 16 years.

 

SADR participates in CJCA 3rd Congress

Libreville, May 10, 2015 (SPS) - The Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) participated in the Third Congress of the Africa Constitutional Jurisdictions Conference (CJCA) held from May 8-10, in Libreville, Gabon.

 

The SADR was presented by the President of the Constitutional Council, Mohamed Bouzid, who had meetings with the participating delegations to inform them of the Saharawi Constitutional experience and the latest developments of the question of Western Sahara.

 

CRS urges for emergency aid to prevent humanitarian disaster in Saharawi refugee camps

Boujdour (Saharawi Refugee Camps), May 10, 2015 (SPS) - Saharawi Red Crescent (SRC) called Sunday, in Boudjdour, for an emergency aid of USD10 million for Saharawi refugees "to prevent an unprecedented humanitarian disaster."

 

"We have launched an appeal to the international community in general, and donors in particular, to take action and provide an emergency aid to Saharawi refugees, estimated by the World Food Programme (WFP) at USD10 million, to prevent an unprecedented humanitarian disaster," declared the chairman of the SRC, Yahya Bouhobeini.

Plunder of Western Sahara’s natural resources: NGOs demand UN urgent intervention

Algiers, May 10, 2015 (SPS) - In occupied Western Sahara, the plunder of this non autonomous territory’s natural resources reached an alarming stage in the last two years, say some 243 NGOs, including "Western Sahara Resource Watch" (WSRW) in a warning sent to the UN Secretary General.

 

In a letter sent on 15 April to President of the UN Security Council, Dina Kawar, Jordan's ambassador to the United Nations, the NGO WSRW warned against the plundering of Western Sahara's natural resources, particularly its mineral wealth.

Autonomous University of Madrid hosts IX Days on Western Sahara
