Polisario Front for sending UN fact-finding mission to Western Sahara

4543 Saharawi children to spend summer holiday with Spanish families

Madrid, June 16, 2014 (SPS) - 4543 Saharawi children will spend the 2014 two-month summer holiday with Spanish hosting families as part of the annual programme “Vacaciones en Paz (vacations in peace), to be initiated next Wednesday.


The distribution would be as follow: Andalucia 1005, Aragon 153, 249 Asturias, Baleares 95, Canary Islands 203, Cantabria 40, Extremadura 306, Galicia 326, Castilla y León 236, Castilla La Mancha 323, Catalonia500, Valencia 178, La Rioja 38, Madrid 276, Murcia 153, Navarra 92 and the Basque Country 370.

Dozens injured following peaceful demonstration in occupied El Aaiun

El Aaiun (occupied territories), June 16, 2014 (SPS) - Dozen Saharawis were injured Sunday by the Moroccan repression forces, following a peaceful demonstration they held to call for a human rights mechanism within the MINURSO mandate in the occupied city of El Aaiun, capital of Western Sahara.


The Saharawi demonstrators demanded that a human rights mechanism be included to the prerogatives of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), calling for the release of all Saharawi political prisoners.

Oxfam Secretary-General on working visit in Saharawi refugee camps

Shaheed Hafed, June 14, 2014 (SPS) - The Secretary General of the Belgian organization OXFAM began Saturday a working visit of two days in the Saharawi refugee camps.

 

The OXFAM Chief will be received by Sahrawi authorities and will hold meetings with the Saharawi civil society, NGOs, and representatives of Oxfam working in the Saharawi refugee camps.

 

He will visit the Sahrawi census center, projects underway in the Wilaya of Awserd funded by OXFAM, and transportation center of humanitarian aid to the Wilayas.

 

Delegation of Spanish parliamentarians on working visit in Saharawi refugee camps

Madrid, June 14, 2014 (SPS) - A delegation of deputies from different political parties in Spain, including members of the Parliamentary Intergroup of friendship with the Sahrawi people, began Saturday a working visit of three days in the Saharawi refugee camps, reported today Spanish news agency EFE.

 

 The delegation includes Buyolo Federico (PSOE), Carles Campuzano (CiU), Isabel Sánchez Robles (PNV) and Gabriel Lopez (UPyD.

 

International Campaign against Wall of Moroccan Occupation in Western Sahara launches website

London, June 14,2014 (SPS) - The International Campaign against the Wall of the Moroccan Occupation in Western Sahara has launched its website in four languages.  

 

“We hope that the new site would become an interactive forum for exchanging ideas, information and experiences amongst us so that we all could move the campaign forward,” said Coordinator of the Campaign Dr. Sidi Omar, in a statement.

 

RFKennedy Center sponsors course on human rights in Western Sahara in Spanish University

Washington, June 13, 2014 (SPS) - President Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights has launched a series of courses on Western Sahara in partnership with the School of Law of the University of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

 

These courses on human rights in Western Sahara occupied by Morocco were given by Professor Carlos Ruiz Miguel, one of the leading advocates of human rights of the Saharawi people and other experts some of them are members of RFKennedy Center.

 

MFA requests halt to import to New Zealand of phosphate from occupied Western Sahara

Birlehlu, June 13, 2014 (SPS) – Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Salek requested from the government of New Zealand to bring to an end the import to New Zealand of phosphate from occupied Western Sahara, in a letter addressed Thursday to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand, Mr. Murray McCully.

Amnesty International delegation on working visit to occupied territories of Western Sahara

Occupied El Aaiún, June 11, 2014 (SPS) - An Amnesty International delegation paid a working visit to the occupied territories of Western Sahara and held a meeting on Monday with the Sahrawi Association of Victims of Grave Violations of Human Rights Committed by the Moroccan State (ASVDH), according to Sahrawi human rights sources.

 

Opening of 6th Conference of Martyr El Wali Mustapha Sayed

Awserd (Refugee Camps), June 10, 2014 (SPS) - The 6th Conference on the founder of the Polisario Front, Martyr El Wali Mustapha Sayed was opened Tuesday in the Wilaya of Awserd in the presence of members of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front , the SADR government and senior officers of the General Staff of the Saharawi People's Liberation Army.

 

Peaceful demonstration “brutally” repressed in occupied city of El Aaiun

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), June 10, 2014 (SPS) - The Akdeim Izik Coordination for peaceful activism organised a demonstration on Friday to call for the release of the Saharawi political prisoners, reported Sahrawi human rights sources.  

 

The demonstration took place in the occupied city of El Aaiun, at Smara Street near the Ma'atala neighbourhood, an area predominantly inhabited by Saharawi citizens.  

 

Saharawi citizens assaulted by Moroccan settlers in occupied Dakhla

Dakhla (Occupied Territories), June 10, 2014 (SPS) - A group of Saharawi citizens working in the fisheries sector has been assaulted Saturday to Sunday night in the occupied city of Dakhla by Moroccan settlers, reported the Ministry of Occupied Territories and Community abroad. 

 

According to the same source, several Sahrawi citizens were injured and two vehicles vandalized before the elements of the Moroccan gendarmerie that did not intervene.

 

Sahrawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed El Hafed ends hunger strike

Ait Meloul (Morocco), June 9, 2014 (SPS) - Sahrawi political prisoner Yahia Mohamed El Hafed has ended his hunger strike following an agreement by the prison authorities at Ait Meloul prison in Agadir, Morocco, to discuss his demands, confirmed Monday a statement of British NGO AdalaUK.

 

The statement also confirmed that the prison authorities have bowed to his demand to be transferred to another prison with better conditions for detainees.
