Algiers, Nov 14, 2012 (SPS) - The President of the Italian Council of Ministers, Mario Monti, has expressed his hope that the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross lead to a just and lasting solution to the conflict .

Sale ( Morocco), Nov 13, 2012 (SPS) - The Families of the Saharawi political prisoners “Group of Gleam Izik” accredited at the Moroccan jail sale 2  have organized peaceful sit-in before the jail, said Saharawi rights sources.

 

The families of the Saharawi political prisoners chanted slogans condemning the gross violations of human rights committed by the Moroccan authorities of occupation against their sons, the source indicated. (SPS)

Western Sahara: Status quo is “unsustainable,” says Christopher Ross

New York (United Nations) Nov13,2012(SPS) - UN personal envoy for Western Sahara Christopher Ross said Monday in Madrid (Spain) that the status quo in Western Sahara final status is “unsustainable” and “dangerous."
 

In a press statement released following his meeting with the Foreign Minister of Spain in Madrid, the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Western Sahara, Christopher Ross, cautioned that the crisis had lasted “far too long” and called any acceptance of the status quo a “serious miscalculation.”
 

WSRW urges EU to refrain from concluding fishing agreement with Morocco

London (United Kingdom) Nov13,2012(SPS) - Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) called on the European Union to back UN efforts to resolve Western Sahara conflict, by refraining from concluding fishing agreement with Morocco, the NGO said on its website.
 

"Without consulting the people of Western Sahara, the EU tries to conclude an agreement with Morocco, under the same conditions as those rejected by the European Parliament in 2011," the source said.
 

POLISARIO denounces expulsion of international observers from occupied Western Sahara

Demonstration outside Morocco’s embassy in Rome for release of Saharawi political detainees

Rome, Nov 10, 2012 (SPS) - A group of Italian activists, friends of the Saharawi people, organized Saturday a demonstration outside Morocco’s embassy in Rome to demand the release of the Saharawi political detainees and the end of occupation in Western Sahara.


The demonstration aimed at protesting the postponement of trail of the 23rd Saharawi political prisoners, who participated in the protests that followed the dismantling of Gdeim Izik camp by Moroccan military forces on November 2010.

Authorities of occupation repress peaceful protest in occupied Al Aiun

Al Aiun (occupied territories), Nov 09, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupying forces violently intervened on Thursday evening against dozens of Sahrawi civilians who took part at peaceful demonstrations in occupied city of Al Aiun to commemorate the second anniversary of the dismantling of the Saharawi protest camp “Gdeim Izik”.

 

The brutal intervention has caused several injuries and arrests among the Saharawi civilians.

 

Thirty MEPs call on Ashton to condemn the expulsion of international observers

Brussels, Nov 08, 2012 (SPS) - Thirty European parliamentarians Thursday have called on The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton to strongly condemn the expulsion of 18 Spanish and 4 Norwegian international observers from occupied city of Al Aiun by the Moroccan authorities of occupation.

Bir Lehlu ( Liberated Territories), Nov 8, 2012( SPS) -President of Republic and Secretary General of the Polisario Front has condemned the expulsion of 22 international observers from occupied territories by the Moroccan authorities of occupation "in clear attempt to avoid any witness for its barbaric repression against the Saharawi defenseless citizens”, in letter to the UN Secretary General, Ban ki-moon .

 

Ross reaffirms commitment to fair settlement of Western Sahara conflict

Algiers, Nov 08, 2012 (SPS)- United Nations Secretary General’s special envoy Christopher Ross on Wednesday in Algiers reaffirmed his commitment to reaching a fair settlement for Western Sahara issue, ensuring Saharawi people’s right to self-determination and restoring peace and stability in the region.

 

Ross, following an audience granted to him by the Algerian President  Abdelaziz Bouteflika, told reporters he would like, "on a personal level," to work towards a settlement to put an end to the conflict and the suffering of Sahrawi families.

Algiers, Nov 07, 2012 (SPS) - The Algerian News Agency (APS) underlined today that “the  three-day United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy Christopher Ross to the occupied territories was seen as an "affront" to Morocco, which occupies Western Sahara since 1975.”

 

UN Special envoy arrived Wednesday in Algiers as part of his trip to the region to relaunch talks between Morocco and the Polisario Front, in order to achieve progress in the search for a solution to the conflict in line with Security Council resolutions.

Al Aiun (Occupied Territories), Nov 07, 2012 (SPS) - The Moroccan occupation authorities expelled from the occupied city of Al Aiun five Spanish activists who were engaging in solidarity work and observation of human rights in occupied territorties , said statemt of  Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

 

The Ministry reported that "Morocco intends to prevent observers to see the flagrant human rights violations in the occupied territories."
