Sahrawi government calls on UN to intervene immediately to release Saharawi political prisoners

Shaheed El hafed( Refugee Camps), Jan 11, 2012 (SPS)- SADR government has called on United Nations to assume full responsibility in protecting Saharawi defenseless civilians in occupied territories and guarantee their social, economic rights from the gross human rights violations perpetrated by Moroccan regime.

In Statement released Tuesday, Ministry of Information urged UN to include monitoring and protection of human rights as priority within MINORSO mandate.

Meeting of AU Peace and Security Council to strengthen AU-UN cooperation

Addis-Abeba, Jan 10, 2012 (SPS)- The Peace and Security Council (PSC)of the African Union ,held Monday a meeting on partnership between AU and the United Nations in promoting peace and security in Africa.

The meeting held at the headquarters of the AU Commission in Addis Ababa, attended by the Foreign Minister of Kenya, Moses Wetang'ula, who his country currently chairs the African Union PSC, Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, representatives of AU member countries, UN and EU.

State Minister arrives in Managua to take part in inauguration of Mr. Daniel Ortega

Managua (Nicaragua), Jan 10, 2012 (SPS) - Member of National Secretariat of Polisario Front and State Minister, Mr. Bashir Mustapha Sayed, arrived Monday in capital Mangua to represent President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz, in the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected Nicaraguan President, Mr. Daniel Ortega, according to the SADR Embassy in Nicaragua.

Mr. Bashir Mustapha Sayed received at International Airport Augusto Sandino by high civil and military authorities of the Republic of Nicaragua as well as SADR ambassador, Suliman Tieb Henan.

Guinea-Bissau President Malam Bacai Sanha dies

Bissau, Jan, 10, 2012 (SPS) - Guinea-Bissau's President Malam Bacai Sanha has died at a hospital in France where he has been undergoing medical treatment for an unspecified illness since late November, his office announced Monday.

In a statement read out over national radio, Sanha's office announced with "pain and sadness" that the 64-year-old leader had died at the Val-de-Grace military hospital in Paris. He is survived by his wife and one child.

President of Republic concludes visit to South Africa after attending the centenary celebrations of ANC

Call to organize peaceful vigil in solidarity with the Saharawi political prisoners

Sale (Morocco), Jan 9, 2011 (SPS) - The Saharawi political detainees of Gdeim Izik incarcerating in Zaki’s jail in Sale, Morocco, called on the Saharawi masses in the occupied territories of Western Sahara to organize peaceful vigil on Friday next January 13 to drop the charges fabricated against them, informed a source of the Ministry of the Occupied Territories and Communities Abroad.

The prisoners stressed, in their call directed to the Saharawi citizens, on the necessity to meet this call, confirming “it is a trust in the hands of all the Saharawis.”

Moroccan police arrests two Saharawi minors

El Aaiun (occupied territories), Jan 8, 2011 (SPS) - The Moroccan police arrested Saturday the two Saharawi minors Jawhar Bougarfa, 16 years old, and Mustapha Saydi, 17 years old, near the school where they study in the occupied city of El Aaiun, according to human rights source.

State Minister to represent President of Republic in inauguration of Mr. Daniel Ortega

Delegation of IWMF visits the Saharawi refugee camps

Shaheed Al Hafed (refugee camps), Jan 8, 2012 (SPS) - The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is making a visit to the Saharawi refugee camps in order to see the situation of the Saharawi refugees.

SPS learned that the delegation consist of four people including the IWMF’s President, Ms. Maria Cruz.

It will held meetings with members of the National Secretariat of the Frente Polisario and government, in order to be informed on the status quo of the Saharawi cause and situation of the Saharawi refugees.

IAJUWS calls on international jurists to attend the trail of Saharawi prisoners of Gdeim Izik

Madrid, Jan 7, 2011 (SPS) - The International Association of Jurists for Western Sahara (IAJUWS) called Thursday on the international jurists and lawyers to travel to Rabat to attend the trial against the Saharawi activists of Gdeim Izik camp, who are currently incarcerated in the Moroccan prison of Salé and to be taken next January 13 to a Moroccan military trail.

South Africa: festivities for ANC centennial start

Bloemfontein (South Africa) Jan 6, 2012 (SPS) - South Africa declared three days of festivities for the celebrations of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the African National Congress (January 8, 1912) as a stronghold for the fight against racial segregation (Apartheid).

Racial division between white minorities and non-white majorities, imposed by English and Dutch colonists, was in force in South Africa until the first general elections in 1994, which were won by ANC since then.

Over 7,000 Haitians died of Cholera in 2011

Port-au-Prince (Haiti), Jan 7, 2012 (SPS) - More than 7,000 people died of cholera in Haiti in 2011 and 520,000, over 5 percent of the population, was infected, according to the Ministry of Health.

The source added that every day, dozens of cases are reported and that cholera might become an endemic disease as common as the flu.

Haitian human rights organizations have reported since late 2011 that several humanitarian organizations left the country at a critical moment in the evolution of the disease.

Mauritania: Emir of Qatar arrives in Mauritania

Nouakchott (Mauritania) Jan. 6, 2012 (SPS) - The Emir of Qatar, Cheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa Al Thani, arrived on Thursday in Nouakchott for a day's official visit at the invitation of the Mauritanian president, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.

 

He is accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising government officials and several private operators in his country.

 

The visit of the Emir of Qatar is expected to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

 

Establishment of Oversight and Occountability Committee, reveals Khatri Addouh

Chahed El Hafed (refugee camps), January 5, 2012 (SPS)- Chairman of the Saharawi National Council (Parliament), Khatri Addouh, announced Tuesday establishment of an Oversight & Accountability Committee within the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front, in a press statement held after the first session of  National Secretariat.
Mr. Khatri Addouh stated that "the committee aims to achieve integration between the liberation movement and the state to ensure good governance and transparency management."

Polisario Front calls on UN to accelerate decolonization of Western Sahara

President appoints governors of Wilayas

Chahed El Hafed (refugee camps), January 4, 2012 (SPS) - President of the Republic and Secretary Genarl of Polisario Front, Mr. Mohamed Abdelaziz conducted Tuesday the appointment of governors of wilayas and representatives abroad of  Polisario Front , according to a statement concluded the work of the first ordinary session of the National Secretariat.

The appointed governors are:

Salem Labsir, member of the National Secretariat, Wali of Dakhla.

 Edda Hmeim Brahim, a member of the National Secretariat, Wali of Smara.

President of Republic appoints new government
