Sahrawi ambassador to Algiers denounces prison sentences against Gdeim Izik group

Algiers, July 20, 2017 (SPS)  - Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to Algeria Bachraya Hamoudi Bayoune denounces the heavy prison sentences handed down Wednesday against the political prisoners of Gdeim Izik.
These prison sentences were predictable, considering the political nature of the trial, which concerns detainees defending a just cause and claiming their rights to freedom and independence, he said.

Italian Deputy Stefano Vaccari condemns illegal sentences against Gdeim Izik's group

Rome (Italy), July 19, 2017 (SPS) - The outstanding member of Parliament of Italy and president of the Parliamentary Group of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, Stefano Vaccari, condemned the illegal and arbitrary  sentences against the Sahrawi political prisoners of the group Gdeim Izik.
 
The Italian deputy told reporters in his country that "all the accusations are not fair and even more unjust according to what Human Rights Watch collected, on what the Saharawi prisoners suffered, such as the use of torture for get confessions ".

Salé (Morocco), 19 July 2017 (SPS) - The Court of Appeal in Salé (Morocco) issued a unfair sentence on Tuesday after 31 hearings of the trial of the Saharawi political prisoners, known as Gdeim Izik group, similar to military sentence issued on 17 February 2013 by the Military Court of Rabat (Morocco) against 24 human rights defenders and Sahrawi political detainee, According to the Executive Bureau of the Collective Sahrawi Human Rights Defenders (CODESA).

Aludaya prison administration (Marrakech) harasses Saharawi student movement prisoners

Marrakesh (Morocco), July 19, 2017 (SPS) - Aluadya prison administration in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh continues to harass and restrict the basic rights of the prisoners of the Saharawi student movement, denying them the right to communicate with their families.
 
According to OO TT source, "this abusive decision contradicts the spirit of the agreements and conventions that govern the rights of prisoners."

Managua, July 18, 2017 (SPS) - The Speaker of the Saharawi Parliament and member of the National Secretariat of the Frente POLISARIO, Jatri Adduh, arrived Monday, to participate on behalf of the President of the Republic, on the 38th anniversary of the triumph of the Sandinista Revolution and the 23 Forum of Sao Paolo, held in to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua.
The President of Parliament has been received at Managua airport by the President of the National Assembly of Nicaragua, Representative Gustavo Eduardo Porras.

Sahrawi government announces arresting group of Moroccan drug smugglers

Bir-Lehlu, July 17, 2017 (SPS) - The Sahrawi government announced on Monday that a unit of the Sahrawi People's Liberation Army (SPLA) has arrest a group of smugglers of 19 Moroccans called al-Hamala who are transporting drugs to the east of Moroccan military wall.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of National Defense, a vehicle used for transfer operation was confiscated, while another vehicle managed escape. (SPS)

Gdeim Izik group trial: NGOs call for rejecting any evidence extracted under torture

Tunis, July 17, 2017 (SPS) - Moroccan judicial authorities should ensure at the trial of Sahrawi political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group that no one is convicted on the basis of "evidence extracted under torture, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International said today.
Morocco should ensure that no one is found guilty on the basis of evidence extracted under torture, said Sarah Leah Whitson, director of the Middle East and North Africa division at Human Rights Watch.

President of Republic initiates visits to wilayas

El-Aaiun (Refugee Camps), July 16, 2017 (SPS) - President of the Republic, Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, has initiated visits to the wilayas of the Republic, inaugurated Sunday BY a visit in the wilaya of EL-Aaiun.
The visits come after other visits that included regions of Sahrawi People's Liberation Army and municipalities in the liberated zones of Western Sahara, within the framework of the decisions of the 14th Congress of the Polisario Front, focused on assessment of regional and local progress of national programs.

Saharawi delegation participates in IUSY World festival

Jale (Albania), July 16, 2017 (SPS) - A Saharawi delegation from the Youth Union (UJSARIO) and the Students Union (UESARIO) is taking part in the World Festival of International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), organized in the Albanian city of Jale, from 14th to 21st July, under the theme “We see no borders”. 
The Saharawi delegation, which includes the Representative of the Polisario Front in France, Ubbi Bushraya and representatives of UJSARIO and UESARIO, was received by the Albanian president among the participants of the Festival.

President of National Council meets with his Cuban counterpart, establishment of Cuban parliamentary committee for friendship with Saharawi people

Havana, July 16, 2017 (SPS) – President of the National Council, Khatri Addouh, received on Saturday by his Cuban counterpart Esteban Lazo Hernández, accompanied by the leadership of the Cuban Parliament and members of the Cuban Parliamentary Committee for Solidarity with the Sahrawi Republic.
The Cuban parliament had unanimously approved, on Friday, the establishment of a Cuban parliamentary committee to defend the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence and to promote bilateral relations between the Saharawi and Cuban peoples.

Algerian Prime Minister reiterates unwavering support to Saharawi cause

Algiers, 16 July 2017 (SPS) - Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmajid Tebboune  has reaffirmed the firm position of the Algerian government in support of the just cause of the Saharawi people.
The Algerian Prime Minister expressed in a letter to his Sahrawi counterpart, Abdelkader Taleb-Omar, his gratitude for the congratulatory message he received from the latter following his appointment. 

European Parliament: Intergroup on Western Sahara expresses solidarity with Saharawi students detained in Oudaya

Brussels, July 15, 2017 (SPS) - The Intergroup on Western Sahara in the European Parliament on Saturday expressed its solidarity with Saharawi students held in Oudaya, sentenced to heavy prison terms, urging the head of European diplomacy Federica Mogherini to take action to ensure that their rights are respected and the sentences pronounced against them "annulled".

Lima, Peru, July 15, 2017 (SPS) - The Peruvian Council of Solidarity with the Sahrawi Republic has welcomed Khadijetu Mokhtar, Saharawi Ambassador with the Special Mission to Peru.
The event was attended by journalists, intellectuals, national and foreign diplomats and congressmen, who expressed solidarity with the Sahrawi people and condemned Morocco's violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara.
The participants pledged to initiate actions so that the government of Peru restores diplomatic relations with the Sahrawi Republic.

Paris, July 14, 2017 (SPS) - Sahrawi political prisoners of the Gdeim Izik group, detained at Salé prison (Morocco), have called for restoring their rights and freedom before the long-awaited verdict of the Rabat court of appeal, which postponed the sixth and final phase of the trial to 18 July.
