Rome (Italy), July 19, 2017 (SPS) - The outstanding member of Parliament of Italy and president of the Parliamentary Group of Solidarity with the Saharawi People, Stefano Vaccari, condemned the illegal and arbitrary sentences against the Sahrawi political prisoners of the group Gdeim Izik.
The Italian deputy told reporters in his country that "all the accusations are not fair and even more unjust according to what Human Rights Watch collected, on what the Saharawi prisoners suffered, such as the use of torture for get confessions ".
Stefano Vaccari adds in his statements quoted by the press that "what happened indicates that the matter was not settled according to justice and that again we experienced harsh sentences against defenseless and innocent people." "for that reason, we are very worried and we consider that what happened, violates human rights and international conventions," says the Italian deputy.
On the other hand, the president of the Friendship group with the Saharawi people, stated the need to "encourage international observers to visit the territory with the aim of reporting human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara," he says, and clarifies that "The problems surrounding forensic evidence indicate that prisoners have been tortured and ill-treated during their captivity."
Finally, Stefano Vaccari, advocates the need to "find a solution to the Western Sahara conflict through the exercise of the right to self-determination of the Saharawi people." SPS
